MITCHELL – The Marlins sandwiched a pair of goals around an Addison Ramlo tally set up by Savannah Barber to lead 2-1 after the first period.

Brookings scored three straight goals to take a 4-2 with just over 5 minutes to play in the second. Bethany Rennich lit the lamp with an unassisted goal before Ramlo found the net for the second time off an assist with Jadyn Peterson. Peterson then scored off a Carlie Kruse assist for the three-goal lead.

Mitchell cashed in on a power-play opportunity before Peterson scored her second goal – this time unassisted – to give the Rangers a 5-3 lead through two periods.

The Marlins scored twice in the first 2 1/2 minutes of the third to tie the game at 5-5, but the Rangers responded with four unanswered goals for the win.

Rennich gave Brookings the lead just 39 seconds after Mitchell tied the game off a Peterson assist before Barber found the back of the net with the assist going to Ramlo. Montana Myer’s goal made it 8-5 as Janaya Kuehl earned the assist and then Peterson provided for the final margin off an Elli Hegdahl setup for the final margin.

The Rangers held a 36-27 edge in shots as Jadyn Runge earned the win in goal with 22 saves.

 Aberdeen 5, Brookings 2

BROOKINGS – Aberdeen jumped out to an early lead and extended it to five goals before the Rangers got on the scoreboard in a 5-2 South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association matchup on Saturday at Larson Ice Center.

Kamryn Hayhurst tallied an unassisted goal to get the Cougars on the board 4 1/2 minutes into the game before Emma Ahlberg cashed in on a power-play chance two minutes later.

Aberdeen ran its lead to 4-0 after one period when Kaitlyn Holland scored back-to-back goals – the first set up by Rhiannon Abel and Morgan Dean and the second was unassisted.

After a scoreless second period, Madyson Ogdahl scored off an Estelle Harrison assist less than two minutes into the third for a 5-0 lead.

Rennich scored with 11:16 to play as Peterson picked up the assist to cut the lead to 5-1.

Less than 3 minutes later, Jenna Schulte lit the lamp with Myer getting the helper to make it 5-2, but that was as close as the Rangers would get as the Cougars improved to 12-0-1-0 and lead the league with 25 points.
