Rangers shut out Yankton, 4-0, at Larson

BROOKINGS – The Rangers dominated play, outshooting Yankton 58-10, en route to a 4-0 shutout win over the Bucks in South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association action on Saturday at Larson Ice Center.

Ike Johnson got Brookings on the scoreboard midway through the first period with a power-play goal that was set up by Alec Rice and Cody Niklason.

In the second period, Sean Sullivan netted the puck with 11:48 on the clock off Charlie Marshall’s assist.

The Rangers tacked on two third-period goals as Alec Nielson lit the lamp with an unassisted, power-play tally just 33 seconds in before Nick Jonas added another power-play goal as Carter Merritt picked up the assist.

Philip Kuechenmeister earned the shutout win in goal with 10 saves as Yankton served 40 minutes on 12 penalty infractions.

Brookings evened its league record at 6-6 and is scheduled to play host to Aberdeen on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 3:30 p.m.
