SIOUX FALLS – Brookings’ Jacob Schoon and Nolan Archer both won a pair of matches Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Floyd Farrand Invitational.
Schoon, wrestling in the 170-pound weight class, pinned Tea Area’s JT Panning in 2:24 in the first round. He recorded a 16-0 technical fall in 3:31 against Brandon Valley’s Nathan Ihnen in the quarterfinals.
At 106, Archer opened the day with a win by fall in 5:26 versus Brandon Valley’s Caleb Klatt. Archer defeated Clayton Donovan of Spearfish 9-2 in the quarters.
Connor Klinkhammer went 2-1 at 113 pounds and Logan Bowes was 1-1 at 170, as both Bobcats advanced to the consolation quarterfinals.
Klinkhammer pinned Sioux Falls O’Gorman’s Carson Holt in 1:32 in the first round. He dropped a 4-0 decision to Lennox’s Riley Williams in the quarters but bounced back with a win by fall in 57 seconds over Spearfish’s Tristen Fierbach in consolation action.
Bowes dropped a 5-2 decision to Sam Stroup of Watertown to open the tourney. He received a bye in the first round of the consolation bracket and then put Sturgis’ Taylor Coffield on his back in 2:21.
Schoon, Archer, Klinkhammer and Bowes each locked up a top-eight finish.
Jaxon Bowes (120 pounds), Jacob Montis (132) and Justin Devine (160) each went 1-2, and Caden Wright (145) ended up 0-2 as all four Bobcats were eliminated.
Bowes was pinned in 1:10 by Vermillion’s Jarrett Rueb in the first round. He earned a 6-3 decision over Spearfish’s Christian McCarty but dropped a 7-4 decision to Harrisburg’s Jacob Marshall.
Derick Dower of Spearfish pinned Montis in 22 seconds in the opener. Montis downed Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Amani Boas 8-5 but was then pinned by Watertown’s Mac Young in 4:27.
Devine won by fall in 2:23 versus Lennox’s Ben Zarr to get his tourney going. He dropped a 7-3 decision to Harrisburg’s Ryan Meyer in the quarterfinals and then fell 4-3 to Watertown’s Lexan Thorson.
Wright was pinned by Lennox’s Mitchell Messersmith in 3:39 and, following a bye, dropped an 11-2 major decision to Spearfish’s Matthew Ackerman.
The tournament concludes Saturday.
