TULSA, Okla. – Leah Manuleleua scored and Maggie Smither made six saves as South Dakota State posted its school-record-tying eighth consecutive shutout, beating Oral Roberts 1-0 in a Summit League matchup Thursday night at Case Soccer Complex.
The game was delayed by lightning for more than two hours early in the second half.
Manuleleua netted a goal in the 68th minute off an assist from Karlee Manding. It was her eighth of the season and the 20th of her career.
Manuleleua tied the school record for most career game-winning goals with 10.
“It was a great game between two teams who competed with great effort and class,” SDSU coach Brock Thompson said. “I’m proud that our team found a way to make the plays we needed in the end. Karlee had a great run to set up Leah for the game-winner and our back line had to weather a big push late to see the game out.”
The Jackrabbits outshot the Golden Eagles 17-10. Both teams had six shots on goal.
Smither now has 27 career shutouts, including nine this season. She moved into second in the SDSU ranks with 260 career saves – nine off the record.
Allison Austin stopped five shots for ORU (3-7-2, 0-2).
South Dakota State (10-3, 2-0) plays at Omaha on Sunday at 1 p.m.
