SIOUX FALLS – The Summit League announced Thursday that South Dakota State will host the 2018-19 Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships in the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on February 22-23, 2019.
South Dakota was scheduled to host the meet; however, the Coyotes recently learned that the adjusted schedule of their facility renovations are going to impact their ability to host the event this spring.
It will be the second time since entering the league that the Jackrabbits have hosted the indoor championships.
During the 2016-17 indoor season, SDSU hosted and the men finished runner-up (189.50 points) – just 2.5 points behind North Dakota State, the closest the team has been to an indoor championship – with seven event champions. The team was honored with both Championship MVPs (Track: Joel Reichow, Field: Bryant Courter), Newcomer to the Championship (Courter), Co-Coach of the Year (Rod DeHaven), and the league’s Track Athlete of the Year (Reichow).
The women finished third (128 points) with three event champions and senior Rachel King being nominated as the league’s Track Athlete of the Year. It was the most points scored in a league indoor championship since the team’s first league competition in 2008 (second place, 136.5).
More information will be available as the event approaches.
