VOLGA – Parker Puetz ran for four touchdowns and Sioux Valley picked up a key victory over Beresford on Friday night, prevailing by a 34-15 margin.
The Cossacks improved to 4-3 and the Watchdogs dropped to 3-4.
Puetz ran 22 times for 99 yards and was 1-for-3 passing with a 14-yard completion to Michael Larson.
Jaxton Schiller picked up 137 rushing yards on 18 attempts.
Sioux Valley outgained Beresford 321-225 in total yards of offense, including 307-103 on the ground.
The visitors opened the scoring on Bradley Christensen’s 7-yard scamper and Isaiah Richards’ PAT kick. Christensen ran 11 times for 84 yards and two TDs while going 7-of-21 for 122 through the air.
Puetz found paydirt from 11 yards out late in the first. McKade Rentsch’s two-point conversion run gave the Cossacks an 8-7 cushion.
Puetz added scoring scampers of 10 yards (6:47) and 2 yards (:59.7) in the second to make it 20-7 at halftime.
The sophomore added a 6-yard touchdown run 5 seconds into the fourth.
Rentsch’s 3-yard TD rush put Sioux Valley ahead 34-7.
Christensen closed out the scoring with a 21-yard run and the following conversion with 1:14 to go.
Carson Christopherson paced the Cossack defense with six tackles. Puetz and Dylen Milton added five stops apiece.
The Watchdogs’ Nate Kropuenske had 14 tackles and Christensen contributed 11.
Both teams close out the regular season at home next week as Sioux Valley faces Garretson and Beresford takes on Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan.
