SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota State senior Maggie Smither added another honor to her yearly total, claiming Summit League Co-Female Athlete of the Month honors for October.
The goalkeeper posted a 6-1-1 record for the month, tallying six shutouts and 34 saves. The Sioux Falls native allowed only three goals and had a 0.36 goals against average in the time frame.
Smither has been a rock all season between the pipes, posting a nation-leading 13 shutouts with 87 saves. She set the school’s career saves and shutouts record during the year, and has been named the league’s defensive player of the week three times in 2019.
This is Smither’s third monthly honor of her career, picking up the award in November 2016 and October 2017. She was recently honored as Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year for the third season in a row.
