South Dakota State began play at Kentucky’s John Cropp Classic on Thursday with back-to-back meetings against Ohio State and the host Wildcats. The Jacks dropped a close contest against the Buckeyes, 10-8, before Kentucky closed the day with a five-inning 8-0 win over SDSU at John Cropp Stadium.

Youth Basketball

Volga’s Camden Cadwell hit 23 of 25 free-throws to win the 10-11 year-old boys’ division at the Elks Region 2 Hoop Shoot at the Rapid City Christian gym on Saturday.

High School Boys Basketball

The Sioux Valley Cossacks lost their first game in the state tournament as a 3-pointer by Julius Frog late in the first overtime and three free throws by Simon Kieffer in the final 12 seconds of the second overtime helped sixth-seeded Rapid City Christian earn a 75-72 victory in the quarterfinals of the Class A State Boys Basketball Tournament on Thursday night.

Former Brookings Rangers standout Savannah Barber has always had the goal of playing college hockey. After playing a year at the junior level, Barber announced her commitment to Elmira College last month.

College Wrestling

South Dakota State’s Cade DeVos has been awarded the No. 2 seed at 174 pounds and returning finalist Tanner Sloan is seeded third in the 197-pound weight class as seedings and pairings for next week’s NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships were revealed Wednesday night.
