USD outlasts SDSU in Summit tourney

VERMILLION – The South Dakota State volleyball team had its season come to an end Friday night as the No. 6 seeded Jackrabbits lost to No. 2 seeded South Dakota in five sets in the semifinals of the Summit League Tournament.

ESTERO, Fla. – The South Dakota State women’s basketball team split a pair of games at the Gulf Coast Showcase over the weekend. SDSU lost to UMass 81-63 on Friday, but bounced back on Saturday with a 76-66 win over No. 15 UCLA.

The Brookings Rangers’ boys varsity team picked up two league wins over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, while the girls split leaves them with a league record of 1-1-1 on the year.

MINNEAPOLIS - South Dakota State opened an early lead, but 12th-ranked Minnesota came storming back to claim a 27-13 victory in a college wrestling dual Sunday afternoon at the Maturi Pavilion.

Jackrabbits run over UC Davis in FCS playoffs

BROOKINGS – After missing eight games with a shoulder injury, Isaiah Davis – playing in his second game since returning to the field – showed the nation what a backfield tandem of he and Pierre Strong Jr. are capable of. Davis ran for 217 yards on 15 carries with a score, Strong Jr. added 172 yards on 19 carries also with a touchdown, as the Jackrabbits amassed 433 yards on the ground in a 56-24 rout of UC Davis in front of 3,681 fans at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium, the Jacks’ 10th-straight appearance in the FCS playoffs.

SDSU hosts UC Davis in first round of the FCS Playoffs

BROOKINGS – For the first time since 2015, the South Dakota State football team will be hosting a first-round FCS Playoff game. The Jackrabbits were not selected as one of the top-eight seeds and will take on UC Davis at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.

SDSU defeats Denver at Summit tourney

VERMILLION – Making only their third appearance in the Summit League volleyball tournament since joining the league in 2007 – and first appearance since 2010 – the Jackrabbit volleyball team entered as the tournament’s final seed and took on the third-seeded Denver Pioneers, a team that not only beaten SDSU twice in the regular season, but swept the Jacks.

South Dakota State offensive lineman Wes Genant and defensive end Reece Winkelman were both repeat selections to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 Team announced recently.

Washington hands SDSU men second loss of the season

South Dakota State never led Tuesday night and the Washington Huskies handed the Jackrabbit men’s basketball team their second loss of the season. The Huskies (4-2) shot 58.3% from the field and were 10-22 from three as they came away with a 87-76 victory in the second game of the Crossover Classic at the Sanford Pentagon.

Register Player of the Year: Hadley Carlson

Arlington’s Hadley Carlson is the 2021 Volleyball Register Player of the Year. The senior led the Cardinals to a 31-7 record and a seventh-place finish in the Class B State Tournament.

BROOKINGS – For the first time since 2010, the South Dakota State volleyball team will be participating in the Summit League Tournament. The Jackrabbits finished the regular season with a 18-11 overall record and a 10-8 record in the Summit League, earning them the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament.

Jackrabbits open Crossover Classic with big victory

SIOUX FALLS – The South Dakota State men’s basketball team put on a show in its first game in the Crossover Classic at the Sanford Pentagon on Monday night. The Jackrabbits shot 58.7% from the field and were 17-33 from three as they defeated Nevada 102-75.

Bobcat bowlers split with SF Lincoln

SIOUX FALLS – The Brookings girls bowling team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 28-22 win over Sioux Falls Lincoln on Friday, while the Patriots claimed the boys match, 41-9, on Saturday.
