BROOKINGS – South Dakota State soccer extended its streak of matches without a loss at Fishback Soccer Park to 40 this weekend as the Jackrabbits drew with Denver on Friday and then blew out Omaha on Sunday.

SDSU volleyball comes up short against USD

BROOKINGS – South Dakota State volleyball showed more progress again on Saturday night as the Jackrabbits took one of the top teams in the Summit League to five sets. Unfortunately, SDSU was unable to pick up the win in the fifth set and South Dakota came away with the win in front of a record crowd of 1,524 rans at Frost Arena.

Bobcats are tested, but come up short vs. Bucks

BROOKINGS – The Brookings football team didn’t come away with a win on Friday night, but Brady Clark liked what he saw. The Bobcats’ head coach watched his team dig itself in a 21-point hole in a homecoming matchup with Yankton, but then it battled back to tie the game before ultimately falling 38-27.

Area football: Sharks beat Hawks in double OT

Five area teams were in action in football on Friday night. Iroquois/Lake Preston outlasted Colman-Egan in double overtime, Estelline/Hendricks blew out Waverly-South Shore, Flandreau held on to beat Jim River and Sioux Valley dominated Baltic.

NORTH SIOUX CITY – The South Dakota State men’s cross country team scored 18 points to take the team title in the 8k at the Briar Cliff Invite held at the Adams Nature Preserve.

Brookings and Sioux Valley both played volleyball matches on the road over the weekend. The Bobcats were swept by Marshall (Minn.), while the Cossacks swept Beresford.

Jackrabbits run over Leathernecks, 34-10

South Dakota State went back to its bread and butter on offense Saturday as the Jackrabbits ran for 270 yards in a 34-10 win over Western Illinois.

BROOKINGS – There will be celebration in the air on Friday night when the Brookings Bobcats host the Yankton Bucks. The annual homecoming game will serve as a reminder to the past, but it will also have major implication on the Class 11AA standings, where Brookings currently ranks third and Yankton ranks fourth.

VOLGA – The Flandreau boys’ cross country team won the Sioux Valley Invite on Tuesday at Meadowcreek Golf Course. Flandreau’s Faith Wiese came in second place in the girls race and helped lead the Fliers to a second place finish on the day.

BROOKINGS – The Brookings soccer teams split their final regular season games on Tuesday night at Fishback Soccer Park. The girls beat Sioux Falls Washington, 3-1, while the boys fell to the Warriors, 5-0.
