SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota State University catcher Derek Hackman was honored Tuesday as a member of the Summit League All-Academic Baseball Team. It marked Hackman’s fourth consecutive selection to the 12-member honor squad.

BROOKINGS – A total of 40 teams took part in the annual Cubby’s Classic over the past weekend at the Southbrook Softball Complex.

CHICAGO – Three of South Dakota State’s offensive standouts were named Monday to the Athlon Football Championship Subdivision Preseason All-America Team. The Jackrabbits’ three selections were tied with Montana and North Dakota State for most on the 27-member team.

South Dakota State volleyball has announced its full schedule for the upcoming 2022 season.

The Dakota Gals softball team competed in the National Senior Games held recently in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida, area. The team, competing in the Women’s 60+ group, took fourth place in the Division III competition.

ABERDEEN – Will Grevlos and Tyler Westra of Sioux Falls won South Dakota Golf Association Two-Man Championship on Sunday.

PIERRE – Despite complaints from small schools about their 2023 football schedules, on Thursday, June 9, the South Dakota High School Activities Association board of directors voted unanimously to keep the schedules just the way they are.

PIERRE – While they didn’t have any ready answers, the South Dakota High School Activities Association staff and board of directors agreed on Thursday that something needs to be done to improve sportsmanship at high school athletic events.

The Brookings Cubs improved to 8-1 with a 12-7 win at the Castlewood Monarchs on Friday night and a 12-10 victory over the Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels on Sunday. The win over the Flying Squirrels was a Sioux Empire League game and improves the Cubs’ league record to 2-0.

WATERTOWN – The Brookings Post 74 Bandits, Brookings’ senior legion team, swept a doubleheader against Watertown on Sunday. The Bandits won the first game 11-1 in five innings and the second game, 9-8.

ABERDEEN – Brookings Bombers Maroon, Brookings’ 13U team, was swept in a doubleheader by the Aberdeen Smitty’s on Friday. The Smitty’s took game one, 10-3, and game two, 10-8.

FLANDREAU – Four Cardinals had two hits each but the Madison Broncos would come out on top in a Sunday afternoon Corn Belt League contest, 11-7.

South Dakota State soccer has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2022 season.

ABERDEEN – The Brookings Chutes, Brookings’ junior legion team, split a doubleheader against the Aberdeen Smitty’s on Sunday. Brookings won the first game, 8-5, and then Aberdeen took the second game, 11-9.

YANKTON – Elkton’s Aiden Stewart threw a no-hitter in the team's opening game of the Lewis & Clark Classic on Friday. Stewart struck out 16 batter’s in Elkton’s 4-1 win over Crofton (Nebraska). The one run he gave up was unearned and he had just three walks.

Game times and special event dates have been set for South Dakota State’s 2022 home football schedule.

Earlier this week, Krista Wood stepped down as the South Dakota State softball coach and took the same job with Creighton. This came around a month after SDSU star basketball player Baylor Scheierman transferred to Creighton. It begs the question, is this going to become a theme at SDSU?

Jeff Goodman of Stadium tweeted on Thursday morning that the South Dakota State men’s basketball team will be playing in the Savannah Invitational this upcoming season.

BROOKINGS – One-third of the way through what is now looking like a 21-game season, the Brookings Cubs are 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the Sioux Empire League.

BROOKINGS – The Yankton Blacksox won both ends of a Thursday afternoon doubleheader against the Brookings Bullets in 16U baseball at Bob Shelden Field.
