Flandreau picked up a big win over Baltic, while Elkton-Lake Benton dropped a game to DeSmet in area football on Friday night.

• Flandreau 29, Baltic 8

The Flandreau Fliers picked up the first win of their season, defeating Baltic 29-8 on Friday night at Baltic High School.

The Bulldogs outgained the Fliers, 197-181, but the Flandreau defense picked up five turnovers, had five sacks, and recorded a safety.

“We played our most complete game of the year and our defense stepped up big time giving our offense short fields all night,” Fliers head coach Derek Genzlinger said. “We forced 5 turnovers in the game and got 5 sacks; they played lights out all night.”

Ethan Hoffman picked up 72 yards and scored two touchdowns on 18 carries, and Tathan Headrick amassed 76 yards on 14 carries.

Tanner Christenson threw for just 45 yards on 8-17 passing but delivered two touchdowns and also throwing an interception.

Tash Lunday hauled in four catches for 27 yards and a touchdown.

Lunday also picked up three of the Fliers’ five sacks and picked up nine tackles including one for loss for points-scoring safety.

Christenson added six tackles, forced a fumble, and had an interception.

Chase Reed recorded seven tackles, while Chase LeBrun, Kolby Peters, and Caley Pitsenberger all recovered a fumble.

“We had contributors from all levels and a lot of young inexperienced guys making plays as well. Everyone was able to get playing time which is extremely beneficial when we aren’t able to play a JV schedule to get those guys reps,” Genzliner added. “I’m extremely proud of all the players, coaches, and fans. It was a great night all around.”

 DeSmet 50, Elkton-Lake Benton 0

DeSmet outgained Elkton-Lake Benton 360-100 in a dominating 50-0 win on Friday night in DeSmet.

The Bulldogs’ Colt Wilkinson completed 11-of-12 passes for 259 and four touchdowns.

Rhett Osthus hauled in a pair of touchdown passes, finishing with four catch for 95 yards.

Kalen Garry also had four receptions, gaining 97 yards and finding the end zone once.

Garry also picked up 48 yards on the ground with a touchdown on six carries.

Wilkinson found paydirt once on the ground, as well, gaining 27 yards on six carries.

For the Elks, Ryan Krog picked up 64 yards on four rushing attempts.

Krog also completed 4-of-9 passes, but for just seven yards.

Martin Davis led all Elks defenders with 11 tackles, while Krog added 6.5 and Aiden Erickson 4.5.

Elkton-Lake Benton (1-3) hosts Deubrook Area on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Elks homecoming game.
