Brookings Bobcats have final tune-up at Mark Wendelgass Relays

The Brookings Bobcats had their final tune-up ahead of the SDHSAA State Meet, competing in the Mark Wendelgrass Relays at Tiger Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

Brookings Bobcats have final tune-up at Mark Wendelgass Relays

Logan Smidt, Jon Kahler and Kennedy Ronning pick up first-place finishes as team prepares for state meet

HURON — The Brookings Bobcats had their final tune-up ahead of the SDHSAA State Meet, competing in the Mark Wendelgrass Relays at Tiger Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

No team scores were kept at the meet but the Bobcats set several personal records and season bests as they prepare for the State Meet on May 24 and May 25 in Sioux Falls.

Boys

Jon Kahler took home the lone first-place finish for the Bobcats, setting a personal record with a time of 1:56.28 in the 800-meter dash

Jordan Mofle finished second in the high jump with a season-best mark of 5-11.00 while Alex Wainman finished second in the javelin throw at 151-08.

The Bobcats’ 4x200 meter relay team of Griffin Bartels, Owen Hoppe, Jack Griggs and Cole Skyberg also finished second with a season-best time of 1:33.53.

Ernest Ting had a season-best time of 1:59.29 on the way to a third-place finish in the 800-meter dash while Christ Bwangoy-Bankaza finished third while setting a pair of personal records with a time of 16.96 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and 42.78 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Carter, Jack Griggs Gus Armenta and Gavin Anderson also finished third with a time of 45.51 seconds.

Wainman finished fourth in the high jump at 5-07.00. Mofle finished fourth in the long jump at 19-10.75 and Ren Jacobsen finished fourth in the triple jump with a personal record of 36-10.00.

Cole Hockett finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a personal record time of 52.15 seconds. 

Trevin Lounsbury finished fourth with a time of 4:35.27.

Jacob York finished fourth with a time of 10:39.75 in the 3200-meter run.

Girls

The Bobcats had two first-place finishes with Logan Smidt posting a distance of 114-04 in the javelin throw and Kennedy Ronning clearing the bar at 10-03.00 in the pole vault.

Clare Strong finished third with a time of 57.15 in the 300-meter hurdles while Lily Murray finished third in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:27.31. Addie Smetana also finished third with a time of 5:38.36.

The Bobcats had a pair of top-five finishes in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Nayree Munoz, Ava Petterson, Ronning and Cadence Dauer finished fourth with a time of 4:27.47 while the team of Claire Bisgard, Sophia Schmit, Isabel Overby and Natalie Kahler finished fifth with a time of 4:36.88.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Amari Ward, Ronning, Alaina Evans, and Elise Lefers finished fifth with a time of 52.02 seconds and the 4x200-meter relay team of Petterson, Dauer, Bisgard and Kennedy Nemitz finished fifth with a time of 1:56.30.
