BROOKINGS — The Brookings Community Theatre is thrilled to announce the opening of its 23rd season with “Charlie Cox Runs with Scissors,” a heartwarming and humorous play by Michael McKeever. Under the direction of Jason Soren, this touching production will run Oct. 17-20 at the Fishback Studio Theater in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center.

In “Charlie Cox Runs with Scissors,” audiences will follow the journey of Charlie, a terminally ill man who embarks on a road trip that turns out to be a transformative experience full of surprises, laughter, and poignant moments.  Along the way, Charlie encounters Wally, a quirky and upbeat figure who turns out to be the personification of Death itself — but with a twist. Wally is more like an annoying but endearing companion than the grim reaper Charlie expected.  With a perfect blend of comedy and drama, the play explores themes of life, love, and the unexpected friendships that can change everything.

“Charlie Cox Runs with Scissors” is a touching play that balances humor and heart, exploring themes of mortality, friendship, and the unexpected ways life can surprise us — even when we think we know what’s coming.

Soren adds: “This play beautifully balances humor and heart, reminding us that even in the face of death, life is about love, friendship, and the unexpected moments that make it all worthwhile. Directing 'Charlie Cox Runs with Scissors' has been an incredible experience because it explores such profound themes with a lightness and warmth that will resonate with everyone who sees it.”

This moving and often hilarious production is sure to entertain and inspire audiences of all ages.
