Carol Marie Weiss, 84, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Brookings, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at her home at Dow Rummel Village.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, at Sinai Lutheran Church in Sinai, SD, with burial to follow at West Sinai Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, July 5 at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.
Carol Weiss was born on May 13, 1940, in Sioux Falls, SD, the daughter of Melvin and Lorene (Thompson) Lind.
She grew up south of Harrisburg with her parents for the first four years and was baptized in Beaver Creek Lutheran Church. At the age of four she moved with her parents to a farm south of Sinai where she attended school and graduated from the Sinai High School. She was confirmed in Sinai Lutheran Church. After receiving her education, she worked at several jobs in and around Brookings, SD. She was united in marriage to Donald A. Weiss on Oct. 24, 1964. After their marriage they lived in Brookings and loved being involved in Kevin and Karla’s activities growing up.
Carol was an active member of Sinai Lutheran Church, Ladies Bible Study, Circle, Altar Guild and sewing in the church. She was also a member of Happy Moments Club and the Madison Quilt Guild. She loved going for walks and bike rides around the countryside in the summer, gardening, and especially quilting, making many quilts for NICU babies at Sanford Hospital and for her family.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years Donald; two children: Kevin (Rose) Weiss, of Vermillion, SD, and Karla Weiss of Sioux Falls, SD; and three grandchildren: Zachary (Mandy) Weiss, Kyle Weiss, and Abby (Ryan) Johnson who were the light of her life; great-granddaughter, Aubrey Ploof; as well as several extended family members.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Lorene Lind.
