The Brookings Lions Club and the Brookings Optimist Club combined resources to donate three vision screening cameras for use in each of three elementary schools in Brookings.
The $22,000 project resulted in the donation of vision screening cameras, printers and a carrying case for use by school staff and nurses. Members of the Brookings Lions and the Brookings Optimists made the presentation at the local school board meeting on Sept. 9. First Bank & Trust also assisted with funding.
Kidsight South Dakota is a free statewide vision screening program. The vision screening machine takes a picture of a child’s eyes and within seconds provides accurate results. Results will indicate if the child’s parent should make an appointment with a vision care specialist.
