BROOKINGS — The public is invited to join the League of Women Voters of Brookings and SDSU’s Common Read for an engaging discussion entitled “Untold Stories of Women in the Suffrage Movement.” Presenter Sara Egge, associate professor of History at Centre College in Kentucky, will share some surprising aspects of the women’s suffrage movement in the Midwest and include a focus on black women fighting for civil rights.

  • Date/time: Sept. 24, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
  • Location: Brookings Public Library
  • Sponsored by: The League of Women Voters of Brookings

This signature Community Common Read event will explore some of the complex topics addressed in The “Invention of Wings,” by Sue Monk Kid including abolition, women’s rights and suffrage. Even if you haven’t read the book, you’ll enjoy discovering these “Untold Stories.” This event is free and open to the public.
