Jackrabbits take care of business versus Wayne State

BROOKINGS — The South Dakota State soccer team topped Wayne State on Thursday night at Fishback Soccer Park.

Just three and a half minutes into the game the Jackrabbits got on the scoreboard. Mia Bosch stole the ball from a Wildcat player and then worked her way to the middle of the box where she fired it past the goalkeeper to make it 1-0.

SDSU scored again in the 25th minute. Katelyn Beulke dribbled the ball to the left side of the box and then sent it towards the middle. The ball found the foot of Avery LeBlanc and she sent it past the keeper to make it 2-0.

The Jacks scored two more goals in the final 10 minutes of the game. Buelke got in on the scoring in the 83rd minute and it was assisted by Zoe Wittkop and Avery Murdzek. Jenna Hallen then took a pass from Sophia Hoffman in the 86th minute and shot it into the bottom right part of the goal to make the final 4-0.

SDSU had a total of 34 shots and 18 of them were on goal. The Wildcats had zero shots. The Jacks had six fouls and the Wildcats had four. SDSU had 10 corners and Wayne State had zero.

Hailee Christensen led the Jacks with seven shots and four of them were on goal. Katherine Jones had five shots and one of them was on goal. Beulke had four shots and two of them were on goal. Avery Murdzek, Laney Murdzek and Hallen each had three shots. Hallen had three shots on goal, Avery Murdzek had two and Laney Murdzek had one.

LeBlanc had two shots and both were on goal. Ellie Gusman, Mia Bosch and Kaycee Manding each had one shot that was on goal. Lauren Eckerle had two shots that were not on goal and Adrianne Agbayani and Maleah Evans each had one shot that was not on goal.

SDSU improved to 5-2-1 on the season. The Jackrabbits will close out the non-conference portion of their schedule this upcoming week as they play at Oregon State on Sunday and host USC Upstate on Sept. 19 at 6 p.m.
