The Brookings Bombers White 13/14U baseball team was swept in a doubleheader against the Aberdeen Smittys on Thursday night. The Bombers lost the first game 10-0 and the second game 16-6.

Brookings Bombers drop both games in Aberdeen on Thursday night

ABERDEEN — The Brookings Bombers White 13/14U baseball team was swept in a doubleheader against the Aberdeen Smittys on Thursday night. The Bombers lost the first game 10-0 and the second game 16-6.

The Bombers finish the regular season with a record of 4-22 and will begin the State Tournament against Sioux Falls Post 15 at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at First National Bank Field in Brandon.

Game 1: Aberdeen 10, Brookings 0

The Bombers were no-hit in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader losing to Aberdeen 10-0. Aberdeen scored three runs in the first inning, four runs in the second inning and three runs in the fourth inning to win the game via the 10-run rule.

Mack Nelson started for Brookings, allowing seven runs (three earned) on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts over three innings. Hudson Vincent finished the game, allowing three runs on one hit and five walks while getting one out in the fourth inning.

Game 2: Aberdeen 16, Brookings 6

Jonathan Lacher-Starace had a multi-hit game but Brookings fell in the second game of the doubleheader 16-6.

Aberdeen started hot again with four runs in the bottom of the first inning but Brookings responded with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning.

Lacher-Starace started the rally with a one-out single before stealing second base, advancing to third base on an error and stealing home three pitches later for the Bombers’ first run of the afternoon.

Aiden Adelmann singled in the following at-bat and was replaced by courtesy runner Jaxson Neuharth who stole second base and scored on a two-base error to cut the lead down to 4-2.

Aberdeen extended its lead with four runs in the bottom of the second inning and five runs in the bottom of the third inning but Brookings put together another rally in the top of the fourth.

Nelson was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning before Kuddyer Baugher singled and Jonas Murray was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Lacher-Starace singled to drive in Nelson before Baugher scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead down to 13-4.

Lincoln Damm was hit by a pitch to load the bases again and Murray scored on a wild pitch. Bode TeKrony drove in a run with a groundout later in the fourth inning to bring Brookings within 13-6, but Aberdeen’s offense didn’t let up, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth to win by the 10-run rule.

Adelmann started for Brookings, allowing 13 runs (six earned) on five hits and seven walks with four strikeouts in 2.1 innings. Waylon Carroll finished the game, allowing three runs (two earned) on one hit and five walks in 0.2 innings.

Lacher-Starace finished the game going 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs and an RBI. Delton Brownell went 1-for-2. Baugher went 1-for-2. Adelmann went 1-for-2.
