The Brookings Bobcats boys cross country team finished first in first place as four area schools competed at the John Collignon Invitational at the Madison Country Club on Friday afternoon.

Brookings' Jonathan Kahler and Sioux Valley's Maci Licht earn top spots in Madison

MADISON — The Brookings Bobcats boys cross country team finished first in first place as four area schools competed at the John Collignon Invitational at the Madison Country Club on Friday afternoon.

Sioux Valley, Estelline/Hendricks and Oldham-Ramona Rutland also competed in the 11-school field.

Boys

Brookings finished in first place at the event with 11 team points. James Valley Christian finished in second place with 51 points, followed by Sioux Valley (54 points), Madison (58 points) and Estelline/Hendricks (82 points). Huron finished sixth with 106 points and Chamberlain finished seventh with 129 points.

Brookings

Brookings claimed the first three overall spots at the invitational as Jonathan Kahler finished first with a time of 17:21.65, Ernest Ting finished second with a time of 17:24.77 and Trevin Lounsbury finished third with a time of 17:25.84. 

Alex Diersen rounded out the Bobcats team score by finishing fifth with a time of 18:05.36.

Marco Springman finished ninth for the Bobcats with a time of 18:49.64 and Shane Harming finished 10th with a time of 18:54.53.

Sioux Valley

Carson Wosje led the way for the Cossacks, finishing seventh with a time of 18:25.70. Bret Milton finished 16th with a time of 20:00.05, Dubhlainn Vermeulen finished 18th with a time of 20:03.19 and Tyrus Schulz rounded out the team score, finishing 19th with a time of 20:06.34.

Levi Axtell finished 28th with a time of 20:52.03 and Carter Sapp finished 29th with a time of 20:53.07.

Estelline/Hendricks

Cooper Schaefer finished in sixth place with a time of 18:12.84. Kyler Marson finished 11th with a time of 19:06.98, Cade Hexem finished 32nd with a time of 21:10.45 and Rylan Skorczewski finished 44th with a time of 25:27.82.

James Lesher also competed for the RedHawks, finishing 46th with a time of 26:23.64.

Oldham-Ramona-Rutland

Zayd Anderson ran for the Raiders, finishing 39th with a time of 22:30.41.

Girls

Chamberlain finished in first place with a team score of 31 points followed by James Valley Christian, who had 37 points. Sioux Valley finished third with 38 points, Brookings finished fourth with 54 points and were followed by Huron (68 points) and Madison (97 points).

Sioux Valley

Maci Licht won the girls race, finishing in a time of 20:20.07. Amia Ward finished seventh for the Cossacks with a time of 22:12.01 while Ava Gatzke finished 13th with a time of 22:49.47 and Amya Ward finished 19th with a time of 23:55.44 to round out the team scoring.

Quynn Nielson finished 28th with a time of 25:48.99.

Brookings

Josie Nold finished fifth for the Bobcats with a time of 21:49.23. Kalla Foerster finished eighth with a time of 22:22.98, Sophia Schmit finished 21st with a time of 24:11.19 and Kaylie Kuehl finished 22nd with a time of 24:13.22 to round out the team scoring.

Maisie Mogard finished 23rd with a time of 24:17.19 and Quinn Ulvestad finished 30th with a time of 26:11.27.

Oldham-Ramona-Rutland

Melody Gilkerson was the lone runner for the Raiders, finishing 37th with a time of 28:14.44.
