Bobcats, Cossacks compete at Heartland Preview Meet

SIOUX FALLS — The Brookings Bobcats and Sioux Valley Cossacks competed among a multi-state field at the Heartland Preview at the Yankton Trail Park on Saturday morning.

The Bobcats’ next meet will come next Saturday at the Clyde Cotton Cross Country Invite in Huron while the Cossacks will compete at the Big Dakota Conference Meet in Chamberlain on Thursday afternoon.

Boys

Minnetonka finished in first place with 44 points, Lincoln North Star finished second with 71 points while Rapid City Stevens (170), Sioux Falls Christian (179) and Sioux Falls Washington (201) rounded out the top five.

Minnetonka’s Sean Fries won the boys’ race with a time of 14:59.90 followed by Lincoln North Star teammates Josiah Bitker (15:23.10) and Easton Zastrow (15:35.30). Sioux Falls Washington’s Cole Reilly finished fourth with a time of 15:38.70 and Worthington’s Faneul Wolday finished fifth with a time of 15:44.10.

Brookings

The Bobcats finished in eighth place at the meet with 262 team points.

Trevin Lounsbury was the top finisher for the Bobcats, placing 14th with a time of 16:14.20. Jonathan Kahler finished 42nd with a time of 16:56.10; Dylan Haar finished 59th with a time of 17:14.50, Marco Springman finished 85th with a time of 17:43.70, and Shane Harming finished 108th with a time of 18:22.80.

Sioux Valley

The Cossacks finished 22nd as a team with 560 team points.

Carson Wosje was the top finisher for Sioux Valley placing 66th with a time of 17:26.80. Tyrus Schulz finished 132nd with a time of 18:53.70; Bret Milton finished 166th with a time of 19:32.10; Levi Axtell finished 182nd with a time of 20:06.10; Dubhlainn Vermeulen finished 184th with a time of 20:10.80; and Carter Sapp finished 199th with a time of 21:28.90.

Girls

Sioux Falls Christian finished first with a team total of 49 points. Harrisburg finished in second place with 80 points while Spearfish (114), Rapid City Stevens (130) and O’Gorman (158) rounded out the top five.

O’Gorman’s Libby Castelli finished in first place with a time of 17:18.60 ahead of Harrisburg teammates Brianna Reilly (17:26.20) and Hannah Genrich (17:28.00). Sioux Valley’s Isabelle Bloker finished fourth with a time of 18:09.50 and Sioux Falls Christian’s Ellie Maddox finished fifth with a time of 18:14.40.

Sioux Valley

The Cossacks, led by Bloker’s fourth-place finish, placed eighth as a team with 226 points.

Maci Licht was the Cossacks’ next finisher, placing 19th with a time of 19:18.50. Liberty Trygstad finished 44th with a time of 20:37.10; Ava Gatzke finished 96th with a time of 22:20.10; Quynn Nielson placed 125th with a time of 23:38.50; and Amaya Ward finished 135th with a time of 25:28.40.

Brookings

The Bobcats finished 12th with a team score of 301 points at the invite.

Josie Nold was the top finisher for Brookings, placing 53rd with a time of 20:58.70. Kalla Foerster finished 67th with a time of 21:15.40; Maise Mogard finished 77th with a time of 21:42.60; Nayree Munoz finished 86th with a time of 21:54.80; and Sophia Schmit finished 90th with a time of 22:03.50.
