BROOKINGS — The Brookings Bobcats finished in 10th place as they hosted the Bob Scholten Invitational at the Brookings Country Club on Monday morning.

The Bobcats finished with a team score of 317 and the total shaved 31 strokes off their score from Friday’s tournament in Yankton.

“I thought we did a much better job today, especially after our performance in Yankton,” Lee said. “This was a big day for our top six to show they can handle the pressure and it was a big jump for us.”

Issak Earley led the way for Brookings, finishing 18th with a score of 76. Rhys Heiberger and Jase Bauer tied for 47th as both golfers shot a round of 80 and Tyson Lunn rounded out the scoring for Brookings placing 51st with a score of 81.

Liam Heiberger and Andrew Heinze also competed for Brookings at the meet. Heiberger finished 62nd with a score of 84 and Heinze finished 66th after shooting an 86.

“I was very proud of Issak today,” Lee said of the performance. “We have been waiting for some of these juniors to pick us up and he did that today with his 76. Rhys, Tyson and Jase were right on the edge of keeping it in the 70s as well.”

Harrisburg won the invitational as the lone team that shot under par at 282. Pierre finished second with a score of 292 while Watertown finished third with a score of 293. Brandon Valley (295) and Mitchell (303) rounded out the top five.

Sawyer Sonnenschein and Gavin Weir won the tournament shooting each shooting a 68 on the afternoon. Watertown’s Ty Lenards finished third with a score of 69 and Riley Christensen and Charlie Swift tied for fourth with a score of 71.

After a promising performance, the Bobcats will build on their momentum when they take part in their next tournament on Friday at the Lake View Golf Course in Mitchell beginning at 10:30 a.m.

“If we can get all of those guys playing well at the same time, we can make a good push at the end of the season.”
