Bobcats beat Rapid City Central for second win of year

The Brookings Bobcats earned their second win of the regular season when they defeated Rapid City Central on Friday morning as part of a busy weekend.

The win was Brookings’ lone win in four duals and the Bobcats are now 2-12 on the season. Brookings will return to action when they host a triangular with St. Thomas More and O’Gorman at the Hillcrest Tennis Courts on Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m.

Friday

BROOKINGS — The Bobcats split their two duals while hosting a triangular at the Hillcrest Tennis Courts, defeating Rapid City Central 9-0 but falling to Watertown 9-0.

Brookings 9, Rapid City Central 0

The Bobcats swept the Cobblers beginning with a 10-4 win by Sophie Tanner over Angela Limun in singles competition. Anika Hooda defeated Kili Cole 10-4; Yuki Zhu defeated Lilly Deming 10-1; Lada Senchanka defeated Raegan Patton 10-2; Alison Glover defeated Alys Bertuzzi 10-2; and Maya Gent defeated Mya Rivers 10-3.

In doubles action Tanner and Hooda defeated Limun and Cole 10-4; Zhu and Senchanka defeated Deming and Patton 10-1; and Glover and Gent defeated Bertuzzi and Rivers 10-2.

Watertown 9, Brookings 0

In singles action Hooda lost to Leyla Meester 10-4. Tanner also lost to Ellie Zink 10-1. Zhu lost to Faith Berg, Senchanka lost to Sophia Nichols, Glover lost to Cayda Weiss and Gant lost to Jade Smith all by a score of 10-0.

Zhu and Senchanka lost to Berg and Nichols 10-4 in doubles action. Glover and Gent lost to Weiss and Smith 10-1 and Tanner and Hooda lost to Zink and Meester 10-0.

Saturday

HURON — The Bobcats dropped both of their duals falling to Huron and Pierre during a triangular in Huron on Saturday morning.

Huron 9, Brookings 0

Tanner lost to Anne Claire Rubish 10-9 with a 7-5 tiebreaker in singles action. Hooda lost to Say Glay 10-8; Glover lost to Madeline Kleinsasser 10-3; Gent lost to Idella Meyer 10-3; Smetana lost to Ann Hoek 10-2, and Lada Senchanka lost to Paw Kler Moo 10-1.

Tanner and Hooda lost to Rubish and Hoek 10-4 in doubles action. Glover and Gent lost to Kleinsasser and Meyer 10-1. Smetana and Senchanka lost to Glay and Moo 10-0.

Pierre 6, Brookings 3

The Bobcats picked up two wins in singles action. Tanner defeated Bailey Jessen 10-8 and Hooda defeated Breanna Tedrow 10-6.

Tanner and Hooda also picked up the Bobcats’ lone win in double’s action defeating Ella Fisk and Jessen 10-9 with an 11-9 tiebreaker.

Gent lost to Adrian Hand 10-4; Senchanka defeated Amara Dell 10-4; Glover defeated Eliza Mayer 10-3 and Brielle Smetana lost to Elise Bowers 10-2.

The team of Smetana and Senchanka lost to Tedrow and Dell 10-2 and the team of Glover and Gent lost to Bowers and Mayer 10-2.
