With strong support from the Brookings community and First Lutheran Church, this year’s Purses for a Powerful Purpose fundraiser in early December raised a record amount of money to support Dee Shanley’s work in Belize. In addition to providing student scholarship support, this ministry at Alvin Young High School in Succotz will now be able to provide lunch money for students.
Thank you to all who contributed to this success in so many ways. We are grateful for the generous donations of purses, jewelry, and Christmas decor for our sale. Thank you to the table hostesses who created lovely settings for the luncheon guests.
Thank you to the local media, and especially the Brookings Register, for promoting the weekend’s events.
The Belize Mission Team at First Lutheran is currently developing plans to visit this school in the next few months. For more information on this opportunity or on how to get involved, please contact the First Lutheran office at 605-692-6251.
