BROOKINGS – South Dakota State Director of Golf Casey VanDamme announced that Sioux Falls native Max Donohue will compete for the Jackrabbits this spring after graduating from Arizona in December.
“I had the opportunity to recruit Max while coaching at Tennessee. I was impressed with what a great young man he is, as well as his golfing talent,” VanDamme said. “He has represented South Dakota nationally for many years with class and we are grateful to have him back home as a Jackrabbit.”
Donohue graduated with a finance degree in 3 1/2 years while playing for the Wildcats. He finished his junior year with a 74.00 average. Throughout his career, he played in 19 tournaments and took part in 58 rounds and posted a 76.26 stroke average. Donohue’s best rounds were a pair of 68s in the second and third rounds of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational as a freshman.
Donohue was a PAC-12 first-team all-academic selection as a sophomore. He received The Wildcat Way Certificate of Excellence, which involves 50-plus hours of community service, 10 public speaking appearances, and 15 activities that demonstrate involvement with the university.
At Sioux Falls O’Gorman High School, Donohue was a four-time South Dakota Class AA all-state honoree who led the Knights to three team state championships and one state runner-up finish. Donohue holds the school record for career stroke average.
Donohue was the 2012 and 2013 SDGA Junior Player of the Year. He was also a two-time USGA Junior Amateur qualifier.
The South Dakota State men’s golf team opens its spring season Jan. 29-30 at the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson.
