BROOKINGS —The Midwest Maidens Roller Derby team from Brookings is gearing up for an intergalactic showdown as they prepare to face off against Omaha Roller Derby in their  home season opener July 27. The bout, named “Space Jam: Outer Skates,” promises to be an exhilarating clash of skill and strategy under the cosmic theme.

After an impressive undefeated away season, the Midwest Maidens are poised to defend their home turf with unparalleled fervor. This will mark their first home bout since 2019, making the event a long-awaited spectacle for fans and supporters alike. The Maidens have been diligently training to maintain their stellar momentum and continue their stellar rise in the roller derby galaxy.

“We’re thrilled to bring roller derby back to our home fans after such a long hiatus,” said skater Candy Insane. “The Maidens have come back and are out of this world will talent and skill!”

“Space Jam: Outer Skates” promises an evening of cosmic entertainment. Spectators can expect gravity-defying maneuvers, strategic collisions, and a pulsating atmosphere that mirrors the intensity of interstellar battles. It will also have a few fun vendors, concessions, and an interstellar photo wall.

The roller derby bout will take place at the Larson Ice Center in Brookings, with doors opening at 5 p.m. and the first whistle at 6 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite space-themed attire to add to the intergalactic ambiance. Tickets will be available in advance from your favorite roller derby skater or can be purchased at the door.
