ELMHURST, Ill. – For the sixth time in the 2017-18 season, South Dakota State’s Mike Daum has been named the Summit League’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Daum averaged a double-double for the week, putting up 33 points and 15.5 rebounds per contest in a pair of Jackrabbit victories, shooting better than 47 percent from the field with an 11-for-13 effort at the charity stripe.

The Kimball, Neb., native started the week with a 35-point, 18-rebound double-double against Omaha on Tuesday, setting a new career high with 15 made field goals. He followed that performance with his fifth consecutive double-double Thursday against North Dakota State, dropping 31 points while pulling down 13 boards.

Against NDSU, the junior broke the 2,000-point barrier with a pair of free throws late in the second half. He is just the second Jackrabbit to score more than 2,000 in a career. He currently ranks 14th on the league’s scoring chart, and is 356 points shy of Nate Wolters’ Jackrabbit school record (2,363), set from 2009-13.

Daum has now earned the award 10 times in his career, the third-most on record. His yearly total is the second-highest total all-time.

The Jackrabbits return to the court Thursday in Denver before closing the weekend Saturday at Oral Roberts.
