Prairie Striders Running Club’s annual Predictor races will be July 31 at the Brookings High School track following the Run4Fun-Brookings youth track meet.
That Wednesday also marks the last week of Run4Fun. Those nontimed races begin at 6 p.m. The Predictor races will begin about 7 p.m. No advance registration is required for the free event.
For youngsters, there will be a Predictor 400-meter run. Adults and teens are invited to try the Predictor Mile. With all Predictor races, the runner submits his estimated time and then runs the races sans watch or other timing device. Awards are based on how close the runner comes to his predicted time.
Trophies will be awarded the winners and free watermelon will be served while officials are calculating the best prognosticator.
Prairie Striders has been conducting the Predictor Mile since 2004 and this year melded it into the Run4Fun-Brookings program.
