BCYMP benefits from Third Sunday Breakfast

The Brookings County Youth Mentoring Program recently helped the Brookings Post No. 2118 VFW Auxiliary with its Third Sunday Breakfast. The monthly breakfasts are held as fundraisers for local nonprofit organizations.

The BCYMP helps assist youth from kindergarten through high school ages in many different areas of growth. This program has been in the Brookings community for 20 years. The breakfast profits of $625 were presented to Darla Biel, center, director of the Brookings County Youth Mentoring Program. Pictured with Biel are Jan Olson, VFW auxiliary treasurer, left, and VFW Auxiliary President Lois Ladegaard.

The next Third Sunday Breakfast will be held on September 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the VFW Post Home at 520 Main Ave. The Salvation Army will be the nonprofit organization receiving September breakfast profits.

Ice is nice

A check was presented to the VFW Auxiliary by BA Enterprises, owned and operated by Kim Dokken-Nelson.

Nelson, center, provided ice to Brookings Summer Arts Festival vendors. All the proceeds from the ice sales were given to the VFW Auxiliary for any worthy project. Nelson plans a yearly donation to the auxiliary from the ice sales at the Brookings Summer Arts Festival. The $500 donation will be used to purchase a new ice machine for the VFW Post. Post and auxiliary members say they are truly grateful for this donation.
