BROOKINGS – The Blizzard led 1-0 after a period but the visiting Wilderness scored twice in the second and held on for a 2-1 Central Division win on Saturday night at Larson Ice Center.

Bud Winter found the back of the net for his 12th goal of the year as Carter Krogman picked up his fifth assist of the season with 4:52 to play in the first frame to give Brookings a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

In the second, Nate Horn’s goal with 13:07 on the clock evened the game before Nick Portz netted a power-play tally for what would prove to be the winning goal with 7:25 left. Dylan Johnson set up the tying goal while Jack Johnson and Andrew Troy helped on the game winner.

The Blizzard, who held a 31-25 edge in shots, came up empty on seven power-play chances while the Wilderness converted 1-of-4 opportunities.

Ryan Fanti earned the win in goal with 30 saves while Brennan Boynton finished with 23 saves for Brookings.

The Blizzard, 10-41-3-1 overall and in sixth place in the division standing with 24 points, ends their season with three games this week – a makeup with Austin on Thursday before two games with Bismarck on Friday and Saturday. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. for all three at LIC.
