BROOKINGS – The Lanes in Brookings hosted the South Dakota State USBC (United States Bowling Congress) Women’s Championship on April 21-23. There were 532 total bowlers and some of them were from the area.

Brookings hosts South Dakota State United States Bowling Congress Women’s Championship

BROOKINGS – The Lanes in Brookings hosted the South Dakota State USBC (United States Bowling Congress) Women’s Championship on April 21-23. There were 532 total bowlers and some of them were from the area.

Samantha Lone was the top finisher from Brookings in the singles division as she shot a total 770. Michelle Brownwell of the Northern Hills USBC came in first and she shot an 817. Kathryn Culbert of Mitchell came in second (783) and Lori Smart of Salem came in third (779).

Kristi Andrews was the next highest finisher from Brookings, and she came in 22nd with a score of 717. Molly Olson tied for 31st (708) and Diane Olson tied for 35th (706). Anjelik Gries tied for 51st (698) and Janelle Peterson tied for 56th (693). Carol Rettkowski tied for 61st (690) and Laura Crooks tied for 64th (688). Doni Stewart tied for 99th (674).

Lyanne Gries and Anneliese Klinzmann were the top double finishers from Brookings, and they came in 24th with a score of 1,339. Sioux Falls’ Alicia Brown and Elizabeth Kruse won the doubles event with a score of 1,457. Salem’s Brooklyne Smart and Lori Smart came in second (1,455) and Pierre’s Sara Sterling and Melissa Schimke finished in third (1,449).

Brookings’ Janelle Peterson and Kristi Andrews weren’t far behind Gries and Klinzmann as they finished in 26th (1,337). Diane Olson and Laura Crooks tied for 33rd (1,319) and Samantha Lone and Devon Jensen. tied for 38th (1,314). Betty Vaughn and Kay Jorenby tied for 45th (1,309) and Debra Stewart and Cathy Bozler tied for 49th (1,305). Nicki Leisinger and Becky Sonnenburg tied for 55th (1,300) and Doni Stewart and Anjelik Gries came in 61st (1,295).

In the team event, the Shot Slammers from Brookings came in eighth with a total score of 2,667. The team of Toronto One Stop – R4 Splicin of Brookings came in 45th (2,540). The Alley Cats tied for 75th (2,847) and Dakota Service Gals came in 77th (2,845). Scared Splitless + 1 tied for 93rd (2,446).

Bowlers from the Arlington USBC also competed in the tournament. Jill Miklos was the top finisher from Arlington, and she tied for 24th with a score of 715. Gerri Murphy was the other top 100 finisher from Arlington, and she tied for 64th (688).

Rachel Krueger and Brandi Trego were the top double finishers from Arlington, and they came in 17th (1,357). Jamie Nelson and Gerri Murphy came in 25th (1,338) and Teresa Mohr and Shaunna Rieck came in 40th (1,313). Laurie Bunker and Mariah Wood came in 54th (1,301) and Jill Miklos and Kathy Hanson tied for 100th (1,263).

Golden Girls 1 had the top finish in the team portion for Arlington as they tied for 35th (2,554). Schmidtys tied for 64th (2,500) and the Alley Kats came in 67th (2,497). Ramona Girls came in 73rd (2,489).
