Cossacks, Hawks, Lady Elks victorious in volleyball

Sioux Valley, Colman-Egan and Elkton-Lake Benton were victorious in area volleyball action on Thursday night.

The Cossacks swept Beresford to remain undefeated. The Lady Elks won their first match of the season, sweeping Oldham-Ramona-Rutland, and the Hawks beat De Smet in four sets. Deubrook Area fell to Castlewood in four sets in other area action.

Sioux Valley 3, Beresford 0

BERESFORD — The Cossacks improved throughout the match as they won the first set 25-21 and won sets two and three by scores of 25-17 and 25-13.

Adison Renkly led the team with 20 kills and nine digs. Caitlin Russell had 15 digs and Machaela Gerasch had eight digs. Kaedyn Sapp had four kills and six digs. Sunny Hesby had 13 assists. Lacey Langland had five kills and five digs.

The Cossacks are now 4-0 and host Castlewood on Saturday. First serve is set for 3 p.m.

Colman-Egan 3, De Smet 1

COLMAN — The Hawks dropped the first set but then won three straight to take the match.

The Bulldogs won 25-14 in set one. Colman-Egan responded with a 29-27 win in set two and a 25-14 victory in set three to take a 2-1 lead. The Hawks then won the match after a 25-20 win in set four.

Brynlee Landis had a big night for CE with 16 kills, 16 digs and two aces. Kaylee Voelker had 16 assists and seven digs. Presley Luze had 15 digs and four assists. Finley Luze had 18 assists and two aces. Elaina Rhode had 11 kills and four aces. Anna Zwart had five kills.

Hazel Luethmers led De Smet with 21 kills and 16 digs. Megan Dylla had 28 assists and 16 digs.

Colman-Egan is now 2-1 will play at Estelline/Hendricks in Hendricks on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Elkton-Lake Benton 3, Oldham-Ramona-Rutland 0

RUTLAND — The Elks made quick work of the Raiders on Thursday night, winning by scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-16.

Adison Renkly had 10 kills to lead ELB. Charlie Thooft had 13 digs. Sydney De Vries had six kills and two blocks. Malyha Slegers had 26 assists.

ELB is now 1-2 and plays at Hamlin on Monday at 7:15 p.m. ORR dropped to 1-2 and plays in the Alpha IV Tournament on Saturday in Flandreau. Matches are set to begin at 9 a.m.

Castlewood 3, Deubrook Area 1

WHITE — The Dolphins avoided the sweep on Thursday night but were unable to force a fifth set or win the match. 

Castlewood won the first two sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-19. Deubrook then won 26-24 in the third set but fell 25-22 in the fourth set.

Zoey Molengraaf led the Dolphins with 14 kills and three blocks. Mataya Gouws had 10 kills and Matte Bauman had 33 assists. Brynlee Hanson had 10 digs and six kills. Carly Engelstad and Kylee Johnson each had 14 digs. Bauman and Johnson also each had two blocks. 

Deubrook is now 1-1 and plays at Flandreau on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
