Myron James Pedersen, 87 of Arlington, SD died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021 at, United Living Community in Brookings, SD.
Myron James (Jim)Pedersen was born Feb. 26, 1934 to Jens T. and Sylvia (Griffith) Pedersen in Arlington, SD.  He attended District 14 in Kingsbury County and Badger elementary.  He graduated from Arlington high school in 1952.
Myron attended SDSC in Brookings for three years and then took the Civil Service test and joined the Postal Service in St. Paul, MN in 1956.
He transferred to the Railway Post Office (RPO) and Highway Post Office (HPO) earning $1.92 an hour.  He worked mail from Aberdeen to Miles City, MT (RPO) and Aberdeen to Granite Falls, MT (HPO).  He was called into military duty for two years, serving at Ft. Ord, CA.  After discharge he returned to SDSC and graduated with a B.S. in 1960.  He operated the family farm south of Badger.
In 1961 he met a rural school teacher, Jeanette Woods.  They married in June 1962 and raised two children, James Bryan and Jo Lynn.  He served on the Badger Township board, Kingsbury Weed Board,  American Cancer board, and as deacon at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arlington.
While still farming, Myron rejoined the Postal Service in 1986 as a Watertown city carrier for three years where he learned to carry all eleven routes.  In 1989, he qualified as a rural carrier out of the Arlington Post Office, where he delivered to 200 boxes on Route 3, traveling 106 miles six days a week.  He retired in 1999 to spend time on the family farm.
He enjoyed riding motorcycle and tinkering on engines.  He went to many auction sales and frequently bought things just to take apart and study.  He found unique ways to solve problems around the farm.
Traveling with family, taking each of the five grandchildren on separate trips to Alaska and National Parks, and cheering at all their activities was a highlight of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Jens Jr. and an infant.  Jim will be missed by his wife and children: Bryan (Amy) of Brookings, Jo Lynn (Scott) Rowbotham of Brookings, five grandchildren:  Eric Pedersen of Aberdeen; Casey Pedersen, Christina (Spencer) Yackley, Hunter (Jaydin) Rowbotham, Lindsey Rowbotham; and one great-grandson, Ryker Yackley all of Brookings.
