Alan Keith Kuechenmeister 74, Brookings, SD, passed away Friday, Oct. 11, 2024, at the Brookings Health System ER, Brookings, SD.
Private family funeral services will be held. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Rude’s Funeral Home, Brookings, SD.
Alan Keith Kuechenmeister was born in Canton, SD the son of William J. and Mavis Lorraine (Wilaby) Kuechenmeister on July 30, 1950. Alan attended school in Kimball, SD, Montrose, SD and White Lake, SD where he graduated from White Lake High School.
After graduating, Al went to work in several mechanics’ shops in Brookings, where he worked on cars until 1974. He then went to work at the 3M Company, where he worked in various departments until retiring in 2008 after 33 years of work.
Al was united in marriage to Charlotte Marie Pank on May 17, 1975, at the Trent Baptist Church in Trent, SD. They made their home in Brookings, SD. Al met Charlotte at 3M and after nine months of dating, they were married.
Al loved to volunteer at Beacon Hill Gun Club, where he helped maintain the grounds, mow and doing whatever was needed. He always promoted the Gun Club and would always let people know when Beacon Hill was having special events.
He spent many hours and miles following his seven grandkids to hockey games and tournaments cheer competitions, volleyball matches and football games. Being an avid Brookings Rangers Grandpa, he could be found in his favorite seat, at the corner of the bar rail watching every game.
Al loved to hunt. His favorite place to hunt pheasants was in Kimball, SD with his good friend Todd Ashley & Family. The Black Hills of South Dakota was where he enjoyed deer hunting.
Al is survived by his wife of 49 years Charlotte Kuechenmeister of Brookings, SD; his children, Mark A. (TeJay) Kuechenmeister of Brookings, SD and Terri L (Jared) Frericks of Brookings, SD; his grandchildren, Trevor (Carolyn) Kuechenmeister of Brookings, SD, Philip Kuechenmeister (Emilee Owen) of Brookings, SD, Hollie Kuechenmeister of Brookings, SD, Logan Bortnem of Brookings, SD, Mavrick Bortnem of Brookings, SD, Piper Jo Frericks of Brookings, SD, and Knox Frericks of Brookings, SD; his siblings, Charles Kuechenmeister, Mike Kuechenmeister and Tom Kuechenmeister.
Alan is preceded in death by his parents William and Mavis Kuechenmeister and his brother, Dennis Kuechenmeister.
