LAKE NORDEN — The Brookings Cubs made quick work of their opponent once again on Wednesday night as they beat the Lake Norden Lakers 14-0 in seven innings.

Amateur baseball: Brookings Cubs earn 14-0 win over Lake Norden Lakers

LAKE NORDEN — The Brookings Cubs made quick work of their opponent once again on Wednesday night as they beat the Lake Norden Lakers 14-0 in seven innings.

Jamison Honkomp got things started with a two-run home run in the first inning. Henry Hammrich and Rhett Zelinsky drew back-to-back bases loaded walks in second. Honkomp was then hit by a pitch, JaColby Anderson hit an RBI single and Charlie Holm hit a two-run single to make it 8-0.

Brookings added a run in the fourth when Zelinsky scored on a steal of home. The Cubs then added five more runs in the sixth. Holm hit an RBI double Austin Koenig hit an RBI single. Brookings then scored a run on a wild pitch and a two more runs on an error to make it 14-0 heading into the seventh. Neither team scored in the seventh and the game ended via the 10-run rule.

Holm went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Honkomp went 1-for- 4 with three RBIs. Koenig went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Anderson and Zelinksy each went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Mason Bebensee got the start for the Cubs and pitched the first five innings. He gave up two hits and had two strikeouts. Jake Ammann pitched the final two innings and gave up one hit and had six strikeouts and two walks.

Brookings is now 3-0 and plays at the Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels on May 30.
