Bandits swept in doubleheader at Rapid City

On the second night of a three-day road trip the Brookings Bandits had a tough go of it against the Rapid City Hardhats in a doubleheader on Wednesday night.

Bandits swept in doubleheader at Rapid City

RAPID CITY – On the second night of a three-day road trip the Brookings Bandits had a tough go of it against the Rapid City Hardhats in a doubleheader on Wednesday night.

The Bandits (5-5) were outscored 21-1 in the two games and lost via the 10-run rule in both. Brookings will close out its West River road trip tomorrow with another doubleheader against the Hardhats. The games are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. Central time.

Game One
Rapid City 11, Brookings 1 (5 inn.)
The Bandits had two hits in the first game and were outscored 10-0 in the final four innings.

Brookings took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Tate Helmbolt led off the inning with a triple and then trotted home on a double from Owen Schneider.

The Hardhats answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. Aiden Roberts led off the inning with a double and then scored on an Alexander Dietrich sacrifice fly to make it 1-1 heading into the second.

Rapid City took the lead in the second. Tate Crosswait hit a one-out double and then scored on a double from Wilson Kieffer, making it 2-1 at the end of the second.

The Hardhats added three more runs in the third. The first run of the inning came on another sacrifice fly from Dietrich. Two runs then came in to score on an error and Rapid City led 5-1 heading into the fourth.

Rapid City extended its lead to 8-1 in the fourth. Harrison Good hit an RBI single and two batters later Hayden Holec hit a two-run double. A run on a ground out and back-to-back RBI doubles from Good and Dietrich ended the game in the fifth due to the 10-run rule.

Schneider was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Helmbolt was 1-for-3. Schneider pitched a complete game and gave up 11 runs, nine earned, on 12 hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Game Two
Rapid City 10, Brookings 0 (6 inn.)
The Bandits failed to get the offense going again in the second game as they had just three hits.

The Hardhats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Roberts and Jace Morgan led off the inning with singles. Good then hit both runners home with a triple and he scored on a sacrifice fly from Holec to give Rapid City a three-run lead heading into the second.

Rapid City added another run in the second on a Kieffer single. Good led off the third with a double and then scored on a steal of home to make it 5-0 Hardhats through three innings.

An RBI triple from Roberts and him scoring on a J Morgan ground out made it 8-0 in the fourth. Crosswait then hit an RBI single in the fifth to make it 9-0 heading into the sixth.

Wyatt Reeder walked to begin the sixth and then scored on a double from Good which ended the game.

Helmbolt, Schneider and Addison Ronning were all 1-for-3. Zach Struck pitched a complete game and gave up 10 runs, eight earned, on nine hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
