SIOUX FALLS — The Brookings Bandits were swept in a doubleheader against Sioux Falls East on Wednesday night.

The Bandits offense never got going as they lost 7-1 in game one and 5-2 in game two. Brookings has now lost five straight games and is 8-14 on the season. The Bandits play in the Jim Peterson Fargo Moorhead Invitational this weekend.

Game 1: Sioux Falls East 7, Brookings 1

Sioux Falls scored all seven runs in the first two innings and didn’t look back.

They scored four runs in the first. Two walks and a single loaded the bases up with two outs and a double sent all the runners home. Another run on an error made it 4-0 heading into the second.

An RBI double made in the second made it 5-0 Sioux Falls and then two runs on an error pushed the lead to 7-0.

Brookings scored its lone run in the sixth inning. Owen Schneider hit a single to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a Tyson Antonen walk. A walk from Austin Clark loaded the bases with two outs and Jack Merrit then hit Schneider home with a single to make it 7-1.

The Bandits had just four hits. Schneider was 1-for-2 and Nolan Miles was 1-for-4. Merritt and Sam Johnson were each 1-for-3.

Game 2: Sioux Falls East 5, Brookings 2

Brookings’ offense struggled to get the offense going again in game two and SF East pushed enough runs across to get the win.

Sioux Falls went up 1-0 in the second inning on an RBI single. A sacrifice fly in the third then made it 2-0 heading into the third.

SF East then added two more runs in the fourth. The first came on another sacrifice fly and the second was on an RBI single. Another RBI single in the fifth made it 5-0 heading into the sixth.

Brookings scored its two runs in the sixth. Johnson led off the inning with a walk and Tate Helmbolt followed with a single. Johnson scored on a single from Schneider and he came home on a steal of home to make it 5-2. The Bandits got two runners on with one out in the seventh but a fielder’s choice and a fly out ended the game.

The Bandits had five hits. Schneider was 1-for-2 with RBI and Jase Bauer and David Brink were 1-for-3. Merritt was 1-for-2 and Helmbolt was 1-for-4.

Austin Clark got the start for the Bandits and picked up the loss. He pitched two innings and gave up one earned run on three hits with one strikeout. Zach Struck pitched the next two innings and gave up three runs, one earned, on one hit with one strikeout and two walks. Schneider pitched the final two and gave up one unearned run on one hit with one strikeout.
