BROOKINGS — The Brookings Bombers White 13/14U baseball team was swept in a home doubleheader against Sioux Falls, falling by scores of 17-2 and 22-5 on Tuesday afternoon.

The losses dropped the Bombers to 1-11 on the season. They’ll return to action when they face Brandon Valley Red in their first game of the Brookings Auto Mall Classic at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.

Game 1: Sioux Falls 17, Brookings 2

Sioux Falls scored three runs in the top of the first inning before the Bombers mounted a one-out rally in the bottom of the first. Dalton Brownell was hit with a pitch before Jonas Murray drew a walk before Kuddyer Baugher grounded into a fielder’s choice. An error in the next at-bat allowed Murray to score and help the Bombers cut the lead to 3-1.

Sioux Falls extended its lead with two more runs on an error in the top of the second inning but Brookings's response began with Aiden Adelmann’s double to lead off the bottom of the second inning. A pitch hit Landon Mosley in the next at-bat but Kale Weiker popped out for the first out of the inning and Jaxson Neuharth struck out for the second out but Adelmann stole third base and scored on an error to make it a 5-2 game.

Sioux Falls pulled away from there, however, scoring seven runs in the third inning and five runs in the fourth inning to earn the win.

Murray started for Brookings, allowing 12 runs (one earned) on three hits and four walks with two strikeouts in 2.2 innings. Baugher allowed five runs (two earned) on one hit and four walks with two strikeouts over 1.1 innings.

Adelmann went 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored. Murray drew a walk and scored a run. Adelmann and Lincoln Damm each stole a base.

Game 2: Sioux Falls 22, Brookings 5

Sioux Falls opened the game by scoring nine runs in the top of the first inning before Brookings scored four times in the bottom of the first.

Warner Carroll drew a walk to lead off the first before Delton Brownell was hit with a pitch. Baugher grounded into a fielder’s choice that allowed Carroll to score and Brownell and Baugher executed a double steal before Brownell scored on a wild pitch. Adelmann drew a walk in the next at-bat before Murray stole third base and home to cut the lead to 9-4.

Sioux Falls added to its lead with a seven-run second inning and a six-run third inning before Brookings scored its final run in the bottom of the third.

Baugher singled to lead off the inning before Weiker grounded into a fielder’s choice that forced Baugher out at second base. Weiker stole second base and advanced to third on Murray’s groundout in the next at-bat before scoring on a single by Neuharth.

Carroll started the game, allowing 12 runs (nine earned) on four hits and seven walks in one inning. Damm allowed four earned runs on four hits and a walk in 0.1 of an inning. Brownell finished the game, allowing six earned runs on seven hits and two strikeouts over the final 1.2 innings.
