Douglas E. Wulf (Doug) died peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Society in De Smet, South Dakota at the age of 90.
Doug was born on June 28, 1933, in Aurora, SD, sixth of the seven children of Burton and Lois Washburn Wulf. He is survived by two siblings, Jean Gries of Brookings, SD, and Grace E. Osbeck (Leo) of Albert Lea, MN, four children, Ron Wulf (Denise, deceased) of Kulm, ND, Tim Wulf (Sandy) of Esteline, SD, Tamara Wulf of Sioux Falls, SD, and Sue Nilles (Ron) of Spokane, WA, three grandchildren, Renae Wulf Ost (Derrick) and Dallas Wulf (Sadie) Ron’s children and Austin Hays, Tamara’s child, and three great-grandchildren, Abigail Ost, Lawson and Landry Wulf.
Doug graduated from Brookings High School in 1951 and did his military service from December 1955 to December 1957, mainly in Washington, DC.
He was in the Honor Guard for Dwight Eisenhower’s second inaugural parade .
Doug loved the outdoors: he hunted, fished, and trapped most of his life in addition to farming. He lived on the same farm for more than 60 years and felt that he had great neighbors and friends and lived a good and lucky life.
Late in life when he was no longer actively farming Doug loved to go to farm auctions with his companion Jean Pierce to collect traditional or antique farm implements.
There will be a gathering for friends and family and a scattering of ashes at a date to be announced later.
Geise Funeral Chapel in Esteline is making the final arrangements.
