Guy English hosts martial arts tournament in White

WHITE — Guy English hosted a martial arts tournament over the weekend in White and it was a success.

There were eight schools and 58 competitors. People traveled from Sioux City, Sioux Falls, Chamberlain, Madison and Detroit. There was great sportsmanship among all the schools and no injuries.

The following students from the White Karate Club competed and placed in the following:

  • Julie Ramirez: 3rd Empty Hand Kata, 3rd Sparring
  • Angel Montoya: 2nd Empty Hand Kata, 3rd Sparring
  • Juan Ramirez Jr.: 2nd Sparring
  • Gabrielle Foulk: 1st Empty Hand Kata, 2nd Sparring
  • Katelyn Kubasek: 1st Weapons Kata, 2nd Freestyle Kata, 3rd Rmpty Hand Kata
  • Chance Blanchette: 1st Empty Hand Kata, 1st Freestyle Kata, 1st Sparring

Blanchette also won Men’s over 18 under black belt Grand Champion for scoring the most total point in his divisions.

English and his wife, Sarah Lirette, raised $1,000 at the tournament that will go toward Deubrook schools.
