High school wrestling: Sioux Valley competes at Garretson quadrangular

GARRETSON — The Sioux Valley Cossacks traveled to Garretson to take part in a quadrangular on Thursday night.

The Cossacks fell to Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney 42-18, to Garretson 54-18 and Parker 64-12.

Sioux Valley will return to action when it takes part in the Rapid City Invitational in Rapid City next weekend.

Tate Steffensen picked up a win for the Cossacks when he defeated Arrick Hauge by fall at 1:14 of a 132-pound match. Wyatt Hardt was also victorious after winning by fall over Payton Nedved at 3:02 of their 165-pound match.

MVPCS’s Tanner Baker also defeated Sioux Valley’s Dubhlainn Vermeulen by fall at 1:37 at 144 pounds.

Garretson 54, Sioux Valley 18

Steffensen picked up his second win of the night after winning by fall at 3:40 against Garretson’s Levi Top at 138 pounds.

Hardt pinned Brock Bonte at 1:06 of their 157-pound match and Owen Vandeweerd pinned Tanner Baatz at 3:19 of their 285-pound match.

Parker 64, Sioux Valley 12

Steffensen went 3-0 on the night by defeation Colten Preheim by fall at 1:39 of their 132-pound match.

Vandeweerd picked up the other win for Sioux Valley, pinning Donald Gergen at 3:04 of their 285-pound match.

Jeremiah Friman pinned Vermeulen at 1:50 at 138 pounds, Andrew Even pinned Hart in 33 seconds at 157 pounds and Teegun Wentzel won by an 18-4 major decision at 165 pounds.
