Joan D. Bennett, 88, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023, at her residence in Brookings surround by her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Brookings, SD. A Visitation will be held the night prior from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings.
Joan D. Bennett was born on April 5, 1935, in Elkton, SD, the daughter of Frank and Bernice (Pederson) Kneip. She grew up in Elkton and Arlington, SD and graduating from high school in Howard, SD. Joan was united in marriage to John R. Bennett on February 7, 1959 in Arlington, SD. To this union, 4 children were born; Michael, Rhonda, Anthony and Jacqueline.
She worked at 3M as a line supplier for 20 years until retiring in 1994. During her retirement she was a caretaker for Bill and Opal McDermott till their passing. Joan enjoyed cooking, crafting, sewing, reading and playing cards.
She devoted most of her time, talents and efforts to her family and friends. Joan had a wonderful sense of humor, a beautiful artistic ability and a deep love of faith and family. She was a long-time member at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
Joan is survived by her four children, Michael (Theresa) Bennett, Rhonda Tucker, Anthony Bennett and Jacqueline (Tim) Mettler; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brother Bob Kneip and sister-in-law Nancy Kneip and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson, one sister, seven brothers, four sister-in-laws, one brother-in-law, one niece and three nephews.
