The Medary Creek Beavers have been busy the last two months of April and May. Their meetings have been held at the Elkton Community Center in Elkton.

APRIL MEETING

President Maddisyn Thompson April with 15 members attending.

Ava led the pledge and Grace led the 4-H pledge.

Roll call to tell your favorite joke. Maddisyn read the secretary’s report, and we made no amendments. Jackson gave the treasurer’s report, and we made no amendments.

Old business: YQCA reminders were given and members were reminded to re-enroll in the 4-H online by May 1.

New business: The club discussed animal entries are due on June 1 and responsibility for green tags and DNA samples go to the families. Review of upcoming camps and a reminder that dog practice began on May 18 at the Brookings County OAC. Jackson gave a demonstration on archery and we wished all competitors good luck at the state shooting sports competition.

Community service and 4-H promotion: Beavers completed two service projects. We made tie blankets and donated them to the Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls. We also made flower pots using imitation flowers that were donated to nursing homes in Estelline, Flandreau and Watertown. They were enjoyed by the residents there to brighten their day.

MAY MEETING

President Maddisyn Thompson called the meetings to order in May. Emma led the flag pledge and Hannah Jo led the 4-H pledge. Roll call was to tell what project you have been working on. Maddisyn read the secretary’s report, and we made no amendments. Jackson gave the treasurer’s report and stated our current balance is $541.20.

New business: The club discussed animal entries are due on June 1 and responsibility for green tags and DNA samples go to the families. State Fair books have been mailed out. Review of upcoming camps and workshops are as follows:

• Special Foods Workshop: Wednesday, May 31, at 1 p.m. Register by May 24.

• Clover Bud Camp: Ages 5-7

• Greenhorn day camp: Ages 8-10

• 4-H Camp

• And more if you look at your weekly “Green Tea.”

Dog practice began May 18 at the Brookings County OAC. Horse practice started May 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the holding barn at the Swiftel Center. State Horse Show will be in Pierre on July 24-26 this year.

Community Service and 4-H Promotion: This month the Medary Creek Beavers made a ladybug supply holder using recycled materials.

The next meeting will be June 13 at 4:30 p.m.
