Bobcats boys cross country finishes first at Watoma Invite

WATERTOWN — The Brookings Bobcats boys cross country team took first place as they competed in the Watoma Cross Country Invite at the Cattail Crossings Golf Course on Thursday afternoon.

The Bobcats will continue to head down the stretch of their season when they compete at the Eastern South Dakota Conference Cross Country Meet at the Broadland Creek Golf Course in Huron on Oct. 12.

Boys

The Bobcats finished in first place with 43 total points. Rapid City Central finished second with 59 points, followed by Brandon Valley with 65 points, Watertown with 117 points and Harrisburg with 128 points.

Trevin Lounsbury was the top finisher for the Bobcats, placing second behind Brandon Valley’s Mikah Peters (15:33.97) with a time of 15:43.23.

Jonathan Kahler finished sixth for Brookings with a time of 16:25.40 and Ernest Ting finished seventh with a time of 16:28.76.

Alex Diersen finished 15th with a time of 17:01.65; Dylan Harr finished 18th with a time of 17:09.33; Marco Springman finished 19th with a time of 17:12.54 and Shane Harming finished 24th with a time of 17:20.96.

Watertown’s Dane Stark finished third with a time of 16:15.37 while Sioux Falls Jefferson’s Jack Wagoner (16:18.77) and Watertown’s Ty Sullivan (16:21.23) rounded out the top five.

Girls

The Bobcats finished in eighth place with 202 team points. Harrisburg finished first with 32 points while runner-up Brandon Valley finished with 46 points. Pierre (103), O’Gorman (105) and Aberdeen Central (136) rounded out the top five.

Kalla Foerster was the top finisher for Brookings, placing 35th with a time of 20:43.08. Maisie Mogard finished 39th with a time of 21:05.70; Josie Nold finished 41st with a time of 21:13.18; Quinn Ulvestad finished 55th with a time of 22:00.85 and Isabel Overby finished 60th with a time of 22:25.27.

Harrisburg’s Hannah Genrich finished first with a time of 17:25.08 followed by her teammate Brianna Reilly, who had a time of 17:54.12. Northwestern’s Ella Boekelheide finished in third place finished third with a time of 17:54.12 and Pierre’s Emery Larson finished fourth with a time of 18:22.57 while Brandon Valley Sarah VanDeBerg rounded out the top-five with a time of 18:30.19.
