HURON — The Brookings Bobcats girls soccer team earned its first win of the year as the Bobcats swept a doubleheader against the Huron Tigers on Tuesday night.
While the girls team defeated the Tigers 10-0, the boys team scored a 1-0 victory to improve to 5-2-2 on the season.
The Bobcats will host Sioux Falls Lincoln for a doubleheader at the Fishback Soccer Complex beginning at 4 p.m. on Sept. 17.
Aubrey Giard scored four goals as the Bobcats earned their first win of the year in Tuesday’s opener.
The scoring began early when Aubrey Knutzen scored with an assist from Rylee Briggs in the ninth minute. Briggs notched her second assist of the game when she fed Giard for a goal at 11:20 and Giard scored an unassisted goal midway through the first half to give the Bobcats a 3-0 lead.
Grace Romsa scored an unassisted goal at 21:09 to put Brookings ahead 4-0 and Giard completed a first-half hat trick with a goal at 31:04 to send the Bobcats into halftime with a 5-0 lead.
The goals kept coming in the second half when Shea Lefers scored with an assist from Lauren Jones at 47:21 and Romsa scored with an assist from Giard at 55:38 to put Brookings up 8-0.
Briggs scored on Giard’s second assist of the game at 68:50 to extend the lead again before Giard scored her fourth goal of the game from Lexi Erp at 71:00 and Liv Ragsdale capped the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 72nd minute.
Knutzen finished with nine total shots with six on goal. Erp had six shots with four on goal. Romsa had five shots with four on goal. Giard had four shots with all four on goal. Isabelle Eide and Briggs each had one shot on goal.
The Bobcats extended their unbeaten streak to five matches with a 1-0 win in the nightcap.
Brayden Schreiber’s goal from Forrest Giard in the first half was the difference in the match and Tony Nguyen made sure the lead held up, notching five saves to lead Brookings to its third straight shutout.
Giard and Schreiber each had three shots with one on goal in the win.
