Bobcats host Russ Strande Invite at Edgebrook

Boys team earns first-place finish

BROOKINGS — The Brookings cross country teams hosted the Russ Strande Invite on Thursday evening at Edgebrook Golf Course.

The Brookings boys’ team finished in first place with 28 points. The Bobcats had four of the top five individual finishers as sophomore Trevin Lounsbury came in second place with a time of 16:16.87 and senior Ernest Ting came in third with a time of 16:57.14. Senior Jonathan Kahler finished in fourth with a time of 17:01.85.

Alex Diersen finished in seventh for the Bobcats (17:28.25). Marco Springman came in 15th (18:02.61) and Dylan Haar came in 18th (18:24.84). Shane Harming rounded things out for the ‘Cats, finishing in 20th (18:41.71).

There was one other area runner in the field and that was Oldham-Ramona-Rutland’s Zayd Anderson. He came in 35th (21:51.37).

Sioux Falls Washington came in second place with 32 points and Tea Area finished in third (83). Huron was the final team that had enough runners for a team score and the Tigers had 107 points.

Washington’s Cole Reilly was the individual winner and he had a time of 16:07.58. Sioux Falls Jefferson’s Jack Wagoner rounded out the top five(17:08.73).

The Bobcat girls did not have enough runners for a team score, but Brookings four runners finish in the top 18. Freshman Maisie Morgard led the ‘Cats and she came in fourth with a time of 21:59.78. Senior Josie Nold came in sixth (22:23.20) and sophomore Nayree Munoz finished in 11th (22:50.60). Freshman Kalla Foerster came in 18th (23:13.22).

Melody Gilkerson of ORR came in 32nd (27:03.63).

Tea Area had the top team score with 18 points. Sioux Falls Washington came in second (38) and Aberdeen Central came in third (84).

The Titans had the top two finishers as Evelyn DeGeest came in first (20:39.90) and Jayna VanLaecken finished in second. Washington’s Marissa Bouwman came in third (21:27.47) and Tea’s Logan Castle finished in fifth (22:16.93).

Brookings will race again on Oct. 3 as the Bobcats will participate in the Watertown Invitational. That event is set to start at 2 p.m. at Cattail Crossing Golf Course.
