Bobcats move up to No. 2 in 11AA football poll

The Brookings Bobcats moved up to second in the Class 11AA South Dakota Prep Media football poll on Monday.

The Bobcats had 81 points and had one of the 20 first-place votes. No. 1 ranked Watertown had the other 19 first-place votes. Brookings is coming off of a 13-0 victory against Pierre and will head to Sioux Falls to take on Roosevelt (1-3) on Friday night at Howard Wood Field. Kickoff between the Bobcats and Rough Riders is set for 5 p.m.

Other area teams that were ranked in this week’s poll included Sioux Valley and Elkton-Lake Benton.
The Cossacks are still No. 2 in Class 11B and received one first-place vote. Winner received the other 19 first-place votes. The Cossacks are 4-0 and beat Sisseton 56-12 this past week. They play at Deuel (1-3) on Friday night at 7 p.m.

Elkton-Lake Benton sits at No. 3 in the Class 9AA rankings. The Elks had 61 points but did not receive any first place votes. Parkston is ranked No. 1 with 17 first-place votes and Hamlin is second as the Chargers had the other three first-place votes. ELB beat Great Plains Lutheran 61-8 to move to 5-0 on the season. The Elks have a bye this week before heading to winless Garretson on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.

Oldham-Ramona-Rutland and Colman-Egan each received votes in Class 9B. The Raiders had eight votes and the Hawks had one. ORR beat Arlington 30-24 to move to 4-1 on the season and the Raiders will play at Castlewood on Friday at 7 p.m. C-E is now 1-3 after a 60-6 win over Sioux Falls Lutheran and the Hawks will host Estelline/Hendricks on Friday at 7 p.m. ORR and C-E will meet on Oct. 4 in Rutland at 7 p.m.
