Bombers beat Watertown as hosts of Brookings Auto Mall Classic

Team picks up a win in its final game of tournament on Sunday evening

The Brookings Bombers White 13/14U baseball team earned a win over Watertown while hosting the Brookings Auto Mall Classic at Bob Shelden Field this weekend.

Bombers beat Watertown as hosts of Brookings Auto Mall Classic

Team picks up a win in its final game of tournament on Sunday evening

BROOKINGS — The Brookings Bombers White 13/14U baseball team earned a win over Watertown while hosting the Brookings Auto Mall Classic at Bob Shelden Field this weekend.

The win helped the Bombers improve to 2-15 on the season before traveling to Aberdeen for a doubleheader at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Friday

Brandon Valley Red 19, Brookings 10

The Bombers lineup put up runs but they couldn’t keep up with Brandon Valley Red in their first game of the tournament on Friday morning.

Brandon Valley opened the game by scoring eight runs in the top of the first inning but the Bombers responded with three runs in the bottom of the first. Jonas Murray singled to lead off the inning before he was driven in by Mack Nelson’s double. After Kuddyer Baugher struck out and Delton Brownell grounded out for the second out of the inning Hunter Vincent drove in the second run for the Bombers with a single and Aiden Adelmann doubled to make it an 8-3 game.

Brandon Valley picked up two runs in the top of the second inning to go ahead 10-3 and scored five runs to take a 15-3 lead in the top of the third inning but Brookings responded with seven runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Murray reached on an error to begin the inning but a two-out rally did most of the work, highlighted by Vincent’s two-run single, two runs scoring on an error, an RBI single by Jaxson Neuharth and another run on an error to make it 15-10.

Brandon Valley scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to finish the game.

Vincent went 2-for-3 with a stolen base, two runs scored and three RBI. Adelmann went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Nelson went 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Murray went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs scored. Neuhart went 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI. Brownell walked and Lincoln Damm each walked and scored a run.

Damm started the game, allowing 14 runs (12 earned) on 13 hits and six walks with two strikeouts. Baugher pitched two innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits with two strikeouts.

Marshall Black 16, Brookings 0 (3 Inn.)

The Bombers were shut out in their second game of the tournament on Friday evening.

Bode TekRony went 2-for-2 at the plate while Adelmann went 1-for-1 with a stolen base. Teagan Wallace also drew a walk.

TeKrony made the start, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on four hits and four walks in the first inning. Vincent threw two innings, allowing seven runs (one earned) on three hits with five walks.

Saturday

Sioux Falls 22, Brookings 6

Both teams exchanged scoreless first innings before Sioux Falls scored nine runs in the top of the second inning. Brookings responded with two runs in the bottom of the second inning when Vincent reached on an error, Damm drew a walk, Vincent stole third and scored on an error. Damm later scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-2.

Sioux Falls scored three runs in the top of the third inning before Brookings scored twice in the bottom of the third. Brownell reached on an error with two outs and Neuharth stole second as a courtesy runner. Murray walked before Neuharth stole third and home plate and fellow courtesy runner Kale Weiker also stole home.

Sioux Falls added eight runs in the top of the fourth inning before Brookings scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Waylon Carroll and Wallace each drove in runs with groundouts.

Damm drew two walks and scored twice. Weiker drew a walk, stole a base and scored once. Murray drew a walk. Neuharth stole three bases while Vincent, Baugher and Weiker each had a stolen base.

Brownell started the game, allowing 20 runs (14 earned) on 15 hits and a walk over 3.1 innings. Carroll allowed two earned runs on three hits in 0.2 innings.

River Falls 15, Brookings 0 (3 Inn.)

The Bombers were held to one Liam Johnson single as they lost to River Falls on Saturday evening.

River Falls scored five runs in the first inning, three runs in the second inning and seven runs in the third inning.

Adelmann started for the Bombers, allowing 13 runs (11 earned) on five hits and five walks over two innings. Baugher pitched 0.2 innings in relief, allowing two earned runs on two hits.

Brookings 23, Watertown 9

The Bombers picked up a win in their final game of the tournament, defeating Watertown 23-9 on Sunday night.

The Bombers started fast in the finale, scoring nine times in teh first inning. Brownell led off the first by getting hit by a pitch and Nelson singled before Brownell scored on a wild pitch. Murray walked before Nelson scored on a wild pitch and Baugher walked.

Murray stole home to give Brookings a 3-0 lead before Damm drew a walk and Jonathan Lacher-Starace had an RBI single to make it a 4-0 game. Vincent scored on a wild pitch before Carroll drew a walk and the Bombers got a run on an error, a run on a wild pitch, a run on a fielder’s choice and an RBI single by Murray to cap the big inning.

Brookings continued to produce in the second inning when Damm was hit by a pitch and Vincent reached on a single. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch before Lacher-Starace singled to drive in Damm. The Bombers got an additional run on the throw to put them ahead 11-0.

The Bombers scored a run on an error to go up 12-0 and Nelson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 13-0. Murray was hit by a pitch to drive in another run in the next at-bat and Baugher drove in a run with a single before Nelson scored on a wild pitch. Damm’s RBI single allowed TeKrony to score and make it a 17-0 game.

Vincent drove in a run with a groundout and Lacher-Starace drove in another run on an RBI single to make it 19-0.

Watertown scored nine times in the bottom of the second inning to bring it within 10 but the Bombers responded with three runs in the top of the third inning. The Bombers got a run on a wild pitch, an error, an RBI single by Murray.

Brookings would score their final run on a wild pitch in the top of the fourth inning.

Lacher-Starace finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI. Murray went 2-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base, a run scored and three RBI. Neuhart went 2-for-2 with three runs scored. Nelson went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Baugher went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base, a run scored and an RBI. Damm went 1-for-2 with a walk, three runs scored and an RBI. Vincent went 1-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Carroll walked twice, scored twice and drove in a run. Wallace walked twice, scored three times and drove in a run.

Nelson pitched for Brookings, allowing nine earned runs on five hits and three walks with two strikeouts over four innings.
