HURON – The Brookings Bombers Black continued to dominate its competition on Tuesday night as the Bombers outscored Huron 28-2 in a doubleheader sweep on the road.

The Bombers out-scored Huron 28-2 in a two-game sweep.

HURON – The Brookings Bombers Black continued to dominate its competition on Tuesday night as the Bombers outscored Huron 28-2 in a doubleheader sweep on the road.

Brookings won game one 12-0 and took game two 16-2. Brookings is now 27-5 on the season and has won six straight games and 16 of its past 17 games. The Bombers will have a week off before playing at Brandon Valley on July 11.

Game One

Brookings 12, Huron 0

Seven hits from the Bombers and seven errors from Huron allowed Brookings to roll in the first game of the doubleheader.

Jude Meendering led off the game with a walk and Nolan Krogman followed and got on via an error. Baker Hanson was then walked to load the bases up and Nathan Lease was hit by a pitch to bring in the first run of the game. Dixon Dauer then hit a two-run single and that made it 3-0 through the first inning.

Ben Schulte led off the third with a single and then scored on an error to make it 4-0. Brookings then extended the lead to 8-0 in the fourth. Garret Wipf hit a one-out triple and Meendering then reached on an error. Krogman was walked to load the bases and Hanson cleared the bases with a triple. Hanson scored on an error on the play to give the Bombers an eight-run lead heading into the fifth.

The Bombers added four more runs in the sixth. Wipf reached on an error to begin the inning and Meendering and Krogman followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases. Hanson hit Wipf home with a single and both Meendering and Krogman scored on an error to make it 11-0. Hanson then came home on a sacrifice fly from Kooper Henderson, making it 12-0 heading into the final half inning.

Huron then went down one-two-three in the bottom of the sixth and the Bombers secured the shutout victory.

Hanson was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and Dauer was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Meendering and Krogman were each 1-for-3 and Wipf was 1-for-2. Schulte was 1-for-4. Henderson and Lease each had an RBI without a hit.

Hanson also had a strong performance on the mound as he pitched a complete game. He gave up four hits and had seven strikeouts and four walks.

Game Two

Brookings 16, Huron 2

Brookings offense continued its sharp hitting in the second game as the Bombers had 11 hits. They scored four runs in the first two innings, but a 10-run third inning led to a 10-run rule victory in game two.

Huron held the lead at the end of the first inning. Meendering led off the game with a walk and stole second and third. He then scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0. A run on a double and a run from an error gave Huron a 2-1 lead heading into the second.

Brookings regained the lead in the top of the second. Wipf led off the inning with a single and then scored on a double from Jace Jaacks. Jaacks then scored on an error and Meendering scored on an error as well to make it 4-2 heading into the third.

Dauer was hit by a pitch to lead off the fourth inning and scored on a wild pitch. Wipf walked and advanced to third on a single from Dauer. Both runners then scored on wild pitches to make it 7-2.

Singles from Andrew Hove and Krogman and a walk from Meendering loaded the bases up with one out. Hove scored on a single from Hanson and Meendering scored on an error to make it 9-2. Krogman came home on a fielder’s choice, Hanson scored on a wild pitch and Dauer scored on an error, making it 13-2. The final run of the third came on a wild pitch and the Bombers led 14-2 heading into the fourth.

Hanson led off the fourth with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly from Lincoln Helmbolt. Dauer also hit a single and scored on a double from Jaacks, making the final 16-2.

Jaacks was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Hanson was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Dauer went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Helmbolt was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Hove was 2-for-3, Wipf was 1-for-1 and Krogman was 1-for-4. Mason Diers had an RBI without a hit.

Wipf pitched the first three innings for the Bombers. He gave up two runs, one earned, on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Eli Ellsworth pitched the final inning and gave up no hits and had two strikeouts and a walk.
