The Brookings Bombers Red 13U team won the Blue Sox Bash Tournament in St. Cloud over the weekend.

Brookings Bombers Red wins 13U tournament in Minnesota

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — The Brookings Bombers Red 13U team won the Blue Sox Bash Tournament in St. Cloud over the weekend.

The Bombers won two games on Saturday and then three games on Sunday. They outscored their opponents 73-5 in the five games.

Brookings is now 16-7 on the season and plays a doubleheader in Huron on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Saturday

Brookings 17, River Falls 0 (4 inn.)

Brookings jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first two innings and then were able to win via the 15-run rule in the fourth inning.

The Bombers opened the game with six runs in the first inning. Dario McSweeney led off the inning with a single and then Mason Burzlaff walked. McSweeney scored on a wild pitch and Burzlaff came home on a Mason Burghardt ground out to make it 2-0. Ty Johnson, Grayson Wagner and Ty Delbridge hit back-to-back-to-back RBI singles to make it 5-0. Delbridge then scored on an error to make it a six-run game heading into the second.

Brookings followed the first inning with four runs in the second. Jasper Pitts and McSweeney hit back-to-back RBI singles to make it 8-0. Mason Burzlaff and Mason Burghardt each walked to load the bases up with two outs and then Hayden Jones hit a two-run single to push the lead to 10–0.

The Bombers added another run in the third. Wagner reached on an error to begin the inning and then scored on a ground out from Delbridge.

Brookings then scored six more runs in the fourth. Hayden Smidt reached on an error to begin the inning and Jennings Huntimer followed with a walk. Smidt scored on a wild pitch and Huntimer came home on a single from Pitts to make it 13-0. Mason Burzlaff hit an RBI double and then McSweeney scored on a dropped third strike. Burzlaff scored on an error to make the final 17-0 as River Falls was unable to score in the bottom of the inning.

Jones and Johnson were each 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Pitts was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Delbridge was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. McSweeney was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Wagner was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Jones pitched the first three innings for the Bombers. He did not give up a run and had eight strikeouts and one walk. Pitts pitched the final inning and had a strikeout and a walk.

Brookings 15, BATT 0 (3 inn.)

The Bombers continued to roll in the second game of the tournament and this time they won in three innings.

Brookings didn’t score in the first inning but then pushed across 11 in the second. Johnson led off the inning with a single and then scored on a Delbridge single. Pitts then hit a two-run single and scored on a passed ball. Brady Nutter hit an RBI single to make it 6-0.

Lucas Kahler followed with another RBI single and Scored on a wild pitch. McSweeney scored on a sacrifice fly from Burzlaff and Cooper Drawdy scored on an error to make it 11-0.

The Bombers scored four more in the third and ended the game due to the 15-run rule. Delbridge led off the inning with a walk and then scored on a single from Wagner. Wagner then scored on an error. Carter Nielsen drew a bases loaded walk and Nutter followed with an RBI double to make it 15-0. BATT then went down one-two-three in the bottom of the inning and the Bombers secured another blow out victory.

Brookings had eight hits. Nutter was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Pitts was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Delbridge and Wagner were each 1-for-1 with an RBI. Johnson and Smidt were each 1-for-2.

McSweeney pitched all three innings for the Bombers. He gave up one hit and had five strikeouts and a walk.

Sunday

Brookings 18, Champlin Daytona 3 (3 inn.)

It was another three inning win for the Bombers to start Sunday.

The Bombers scored two runs in the first inning. McSweeney walked to begin the inning and then scored on a Drawdy single. Drawdy then came home on a Jones double and Brookings led 2-0 heading into the second.

Huntimer hit an RBI single in the second to make it 3-0. The Bombers then ended the game in the third by scoring 15 runs.

Champlin Dayton tied the game with a three-run double in the top of the third. Nielsen then walked to begin the bottom of the inning and scored on an error. Mason Burzlaff then hit a two-run single to push the lead to 6-3. Two batters later Mason Burghardt hit a two-run single to make it 8-3. Jones followed with a RBI single of his own to make it 9-3.

Delbridge hit an RBI single and Wagner followed with a two-run triple to make it 12-3. Nutter hit a two-run single and then scored on a ground out to make it 15-3. Huntimer scored on a passed ball and Nielsen scored on a wild pitch. Burzlaff then ended the game with an RBI single.

The Bombers had 12 hits. Burzlaff was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Jones was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Wagner was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Nutter was 1-for-1 with two RBIs. Burghardt was 1-for-2 with two RBIS and Drawdy and Delbridge were each 1-for-2 with an RBI. Huntimer was 1-for-1 with an RBI.

Drawdy pitched all three innings for the Bombers and gave up three unearned runs on two hits with six strikeouts and three walks.

Brookings 12, Wayzata 1 (5 inn.)

The Bombers won via the 10-run rule in the semifinals.

Wayzata scored a run on a ground out in the top of the first. Brookings answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. McSweeney reached on an error to begin the inning and then scored on a ground out from Burzlaff. Jones then hit an RBI triple to make it 2-1.

The Bombers added a run in the second as Delbridge scored on an error to make it 3-1. They then scored five runs in the third.

Huntimer led off the bottom of the third with a single and Kahler followed with a walk. Nielsen then hit Huntimer home with a double and Jones hit a two-run single to make it 6-1. Smidt scored on a ground out from Burzlaff and McSweeney scored on an error to make it 8-1.

The Bombers scored two runs in the fourth. Delbridge reached on an error to begin the inning and scored on a Pitts ground out. Wagner walked and scored on a single from Nutter to make it 10-1.
Brookings ended the game in the fifth by scoring two runs. Nielsen and Smidt led off the inning with back-to-back singles and both runners scored on a double from McSweeney.

The Bombers had 11 hits. Smidt was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Nielsen was 2-for-2 with an RBI. McSweeney was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Jones was 1-for-1 with an RBI. Wagner was 1-for-1 and Delbridge and Drawdy were each 1-for-2. Pitts had two RBIs without a hit.

Delbridge pitched a complete game for the Bombers. He gave up one earned run on two hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

Brookings 11, Rochester 1 (5 inn.)

The Bombers won in five innings in the championship game as they secured victory via the 10-run rule again.

Brookings scored three runs in the first. Burzlaff hit a one-out single and Drawdy followed with a double. Both runners then scored on an error to make it 2-0. Johnson then hit an RBI single to give the Bombers a three-run lead heading into the second.

The Bombers added four runs in the second. Pitts led off the inning with a single and scored on an error. Nielsen then hit an RBI single and McSweeney hit a two-run single to make it 7-0 heading into the third.

Delbridge hit an RBI single in the third to make it 8-0. Rochester then got on the board in the top of the fourth with a run on an error, but Brookings pushed the lead back to eight with a run on an error in the bottom of the inning.

Brookings then scored two runs in the fifth to end the game. McSweeney hit a one-out single and then scored on a single from Burzlaff. Burzlaff then came home on a single from Burghardt and the Bombers were crowned champions.

The Bombers had 14 hits. Burghardt was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Burzlaff and Delbridge were each 2-for-2 with an RBI. Nielsen and Johnson were each 1-for-2 with an RBI and McSweeney was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Pitts was 2-for-2 and Kahler was 1-for-2.

Wagner pitched all five innings for Brookings. He gave up one unearned run on two hits with 11 strikeouts and two walks.
