SACRAMENTO, Calif. — All six Jackrabbits representing the SDSU Track and Field program competed during the opening day of NCAA West Prelim action on Wednesday with one athlete qualifying for Friday’s quarterfinals.
Reid Pierzinski made waves in the 400-meter hurdles, running a personal best 50.78 to break his own school record and take third in his heat. He advances to the event quarterfinal after finishing in 15th place overall and has a chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas.
Pierre Lear ran a 14.01 in the 100-meter hurdles for 28th place overall and fifth in his heat, missing quarterfinals by .02 seconds.
Thomas Breuckman clocked a 1:51.24 in the 800-meter run for fifth in his heat and 39th overall in the event.
Joseph Minor-Williams competed in his first of two events at the West Prelims, crossing the finish line in 29:31.25 in the 10,000-meter run. His time gave him a 35th place finish.
In the shot put, Dominick Etherington took 36th place overall and fourth in his flight with a 57-06.50.
Hunter Wallster finished 43rd overall — and 13th in his flight — in the men’s hammer throw with a mark of 183-06.00.
Pierzinski’s 400m hurdle quarterfinal is set for 9:25 p.m. CDT Friday, while Minor-Williams will compete in the 5000-meter run at 10:10 p.m. CDT.
