BROOKINGS – The Rangers scored three times in the final to pull away from a 3-3 tie for a 6-3 win over Watertown on Sunday at Larson Ice Center.
The win avenges a season-opening loss to the Lakers as Brookings improved to 4-3 on the season and sits in fifth place with eight points in the SDAHA standings. Watertown drops to 6-4-1 for 13 points and is second in the standings.
The Rangers play host to Watertown on Friday, Jan. 5, in a 7:45 p.m. game on the Blue rink.

Montana Myer spotted the Rangers the early lead 4 minutes into the game off assists from Bethany Rennich and Jadyn Peterson.
Watertown tied the game on Kelsey Beebe’s goal with 3:13 left in the first and then went ahead on Tiffany Hamann’s unassisted tally inside of a minute to play. Tessa Holien and Hamann set up Beebe’s goal.
Myer scored again to open the second period and tie it at 2-2 as Rennich and Peterson earned the helpers, but Kendra Kranz countered with an unassisted goal to put the Lakers back on top, 3-2, with 11:12 on the clock.
Jadyn Peterson’s goal with 4:50 to play sent the game into the second intermission tied at 3-3 as Carlie Kruse picked up the assist.
In the third period, Peterson notched a hat trick with back-to-back goals to put the Rangers on top, 5-3. McKenna Geraets assisted on the first and Rennich picked up the playmaker with her third assist on the second.
Rennich then lit the lamp with an unassisted power-play goal with 8 seconds to play for the 6-3 win.
The Rangers held a 38-30 edge in shots, limiting Watertown to just eight shots in the third period, as Jadyn Runge finished with 27 saves for the win in goal.
